Julio Jones is OK with fewer passes thrown his way: “I’ve never been a stat guy”

New Titans wide receiver Julio Jones says that if he doesn’t get as many passes thrown his way in Tennessee as he was accustomed to in Atlanta, he’s fine with that.

Jones said that he knows that on a team with A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry, the offense won’t always go through him. Jones says as long as the Titans are winning he’ll be happy.

“At the end of the day, you want to create a winning culture. However you need to do it, you have to get the job done. My whole career, I’ve never been a stat guy. I’m a team guy. Whatever they need from me I’m going to do, and I will enjoy playing my role at a high level,” Jones said, via ESPN.

Titans General Manager Jon Robinson said that mindset is part of why Tennessee wanted Jones.

“In my discussion with Julio, his No. 1 goal wasn’t about targets. His goal is to win, whether it takes nine targets, two targets or none. That’s the mindset that he has and the mindset that we want here,” Robinson said.

The Titans didn’t trade for Jones so he could be a decoy, but if Jones may get the ball less than Brown — and a lot less than Henry — and he’s OK with that as long as the Titans are winning.

  1. you can throw me fewer passes, just don’t cut my pay.
    .
    what a giver

  2. I believe Jones. He won’t come into a new situation and be disruptive. He also realizes that given the difficulty of the AFC, there is no way any team survives unless everyone is pulling together.

  3. Team guy? He quit on the Falcons last season. And he demands a new contract every offseason. He is definitely NOT a team guy.

  4. One day Julio will be back in the NFC South, torching the Falcons twice a year before he retires!

  5. Never been a stat guy? Haven’t been a “catch the game winning pass in the end zone guy” either.

  6. All of a sudden there’s a lot of weird hate for Julio Jones. Like what’s wrong with y’all?

  7. No hate for the man… He’s walking into a perfect situation. Being the No. 2 WR in a run first offense with the league’s best power back is as close to ideal as you get…

But given his age and coming off a season where it wasn’t like he had a specific serious injury, he was just beat up for most of the season, it’s not a surprise that there are questions about how many big seasons he has left. The Titans could very easily look like geniuses for a year or two.

  8. So refreshing to hear an unselfish, team first nfl player say those things after reading about Aaron Rodgers who is boycotting the Packers just because they drafted a quarterback without telling him.at least some players put team above individual stats.

Julio isn’t going be the #2 WR there. A healthy AJ Brown, while very good, still to this day is not better than a healthy Julio Jones. Jones will see the #1 CB much more once he digests the playbook. AJ Brown will have a monster season bc of it, but don’t think that makes him the #1 WR. He benefits from what Julio does, not as much the other way around.

  10. i’ve never heard ask or more targets in the past….only money…that said he’s a much bigger addition to this offence than what the ravens acquired in sammy made of glass watkins and those guys are going nuts about it lol

  11. Yep stats 60 td’s in ten seasons says it all brother. Dude just vanishes in the red zone and it is not like he didn’t play on a team with weaponry so he did not get crazy coverage either

  12. In a world where AJ Green gets 6 million plus guaranteed, Julio is worth the 15.3 million easy.

who needs him in the redzone when you have derrick henry?

  14. “who needs him in the redzone when you have derrick henry?”

Considering the draft capital given and the cap hit the Titans are taking, he better be more than a “between the 20s” player lol

  15. Julio is right. He wasn’t the stat guy in Atlanta. Matt Ryan was the stat guy and beneficiary. Matt stats will surely decrease now that JJ is no longer there .

No one hates Julio Jones, just like any player that has a bunch of stats, they dissect his totality when he moves to a new team and ask that if he’s so great, why hasn’t he done this or managed to accomplish that. The Titans have suddenly been labeled Super Bowl contenders when the numbers look like he moves the chains but is responsible for field goals, drives that stall or someone else getting into the endzone. For a WR of Julio Jones’s size, skill and talent, you’d think he would have had more than one double digit scoring season. What’s going to change? Not like Matt Ryan has been trash or Jones hasn’t played with talented receivers and running backs before.
