USA TODAY Sports

Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond has signed his rookie deal, the team announced Tuesday.

Mond will get a three-year, $5.223 million deal, including a signing bonus of $1.158 million, per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, and the third-round choice will count $949,712 against the 2021 salary cap.

The Vikings have signed eight of their 11 draft choices, with only third-rounders Chazz Surratt, Wyatt Davis and Patrick Jones remaining unsigned.

Mond threw for 2,282 yards with 19 touchdowns and three interceptions in 10 games for Texas A&M last season. During his career with the Aggies under Jimbo Fisher, Mond threw for 9,661 yards and 71 touchdowns.

  1. Lot of people got the kid starting already. He has talent but is a project QB you take a flyer on. Cousins will be starting for awhile there yet.

  2. I watch a lot of college football and I’ve seen A&M about 5 or 6 times with Mond at quarterback. He’s unorthodox but gets the job done, whether it’s a pass downfield or escaping the pocket for a substantial gain downfield. He will be interesting to watch.

  3. Yup. The kid is green and HOPEFULLY will develop well enough to replace Cousins in one or two years. But don’t hold your breath. He might not either, and there MIGHT be a better opportunity with some other QB for the Vikes before then.

    Mond is not “all that”

I’d rather see a mobile, but more pocket capable QB.

This dude just seems like yet another “RPO”, “Athletic” QB like we’ve seen 100s of times who win in college but can’t cut it in the NFL.

  4. Are three year deals normal? I thought mid round picks usually sign four year deals, no? Seems by the time he finally is ready to play he’ll be ready to hit (restricted?) free agency.

  5. i like it…give him a deal that can be renegotiated quickly before he becomes a huge star.
