Lamar Jackson: It’s straight go-mode right now, the season is here

Offseason programs have come to a close around the NFL and players will be off until the start of training camp next month, but Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson doesn’t want his teammates to think of this as a break.

During Jackson’s last media session before the start of camp, Jackson said that he’s seen “hard work [and] preparation” as the things that have lifted teams to Super Bowl titles. As a result, his parting message to the team is that the offseason has already come to an end and that they should be treating the next month the same way they’d treat the regular season.

“It’s really not the offseason anymore,” Jackson said, via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com. “For us, I’ll say, we’ve just got to keep grinding and stay in shape. We can’t go backwards right now, because we already had our fun and did whatever we did during the regular offseason. Not this time; it’s straight go-mode right now. The season is here.”

The biggest task facing Jackson and the offense is taking a step forward in the passing game. There’s been a lot of emphasis placed on the deep passing game in particular and anything he can do to help that effort in the next few weeks will be much appreciated in Baltimore.

  1. I think this sounds like he is maturing. Last year he was playing Beach football and getting clotheslined by a Waverunner or whatever. I still think there’s a chance he started the season injured last year from that

Either way it sounds like his head is in the right place

  2. Did someone teach Lamar how to read an NFL caliber defense this off-season? If not, “go mode” is going to get ugly

  3. Balsagna, I have to assume the “he’s just a running back” crowd are NOT fans of an opposing AFC North team who gets to feel a tiny bit nauseous every time Lamar gets the ball snapped to him.

  4. The season is not here. It’s 87 days away, a lot of growing and work to be done. If you are trying to peak and put the pedal to the floor right now, you are going to be mush in September. During this break before camp you get your body right. Get your mind in focus. July 27th you kick into full go mode.

  5. I wish Aaron Rodgers still had the fire like this kid. But he found love again and now doesnt care about football. Sigh.

  6. Lamar Jackson is 24 years old. Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers weren’t winning playoff games until they were older. They certainly weren’t winning MVP awards at that point. Would it be nice if Lamar won a Super Bowl at 23 like Ben Roethlisberger? Of course it would but he has time. There is no expiration date coming.

For all the talk about Lamar’s playing style leading to injury there were only 5 teams in 2020 that allowed less hits on the quarterback that the Ravens. They were the Packers, Cardinals, Colts, Browns and Raiders. The Bucs allowed more hits on Brady than the Ravens did on Lamar. The Chiefs allowed more hits on Mahomes than the Ravens did on Lamar. The Seahawks were among the worst in the league and Russell Wilson has let everyone know. You don’t hear Lamar complaining because he really isn’t taking big hits. He’s not Cam Newton running anyone over. He’s more like Darren Sproles who was another guy everyone said wouldn’t last until he retired at age 36 after 14 years at running back. Lamar Jackson has time and the passion to keep getting better and better.

  7. It is just fantastic news for the Pats to see all these AFC teams with 30 mil per year QBs.

It assures all kinds of cap hells for years.

    I’m loving it.

Spoken like a true running back, just take the ball and go Lamar.

Why are folks hating on the 2019 NFL unanimous MVP?? I don’t get it. Is it jealousy? Is it racism? What is it that make people talk so much crap about this wonderful young man who is so spectacular to watch? Please enlighten me and thank you!

  9. Funny, Mahomes admitting he didn’t know how to read NFL defenses his first couple of seasons. But Lamar gets all the hate. I suppose Fitzpatrick, Dalton and Stafford can read defenses and they are still searching for their first playoff win. Why is Lamar the only NFL QB who has to win a SB?

Personally, I hate Baltimore and their arrogant selves alongside the bandwagon nature of their existence.

It’s a Mickey Mouse sports town and always will be. They want so badly to be big time and their self promotion is incredibly annoying, on top of celebrating a double murderer and domestice abusers like Suggs and Ray Rice.

It’s nothing personal towards Jackson. The entitlement is the problem.

  11. It is just fantastic news for the Pats to see all these AFC teams with 30 mil per year QBs.

And see their former 30 million QB winning a championship with another team while they slip to mediocrity. But hey, your genius coach did save a few bucks.

  12. This will be an interesting year to watch Lamar Jackson’s performance, as the Ravens plan to have him pass more. He has been explosive as a runner, accurate as a passer, hasn’t thrown too many interceptions and seems to be a respected team leader. If he can pass more often with good results that will extend his career [I worry about these QBs who run so much] and help the team’s offense too.

  13. Can’t wait till 8 has his ring alongside the great Baltimore QB’s like Unitas, Flacco and soon to be Lamar. The hate towards the kid for just being all about football, his teammates, his city and his craft, not his Insta account is just mindboggling.

Then again when you play for one of the top NFL organizations this Century there’s always gonna be jealousy. The Train to City of Angels has left the station with Lamar as the conductor. Get on board or be run over!!

  14. wow..did touchback call another team and fanbase arrogant and entitled. bwaaaaahhhhaaaaa….this guy. id love to meet this dude in person.
