Robert Saleh: Zach Wilson is wired the way you want all players to be wired

Jets coach Robert Saleh is seeing everything he wants to see from rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.

Saleh said that Wilson’s offseason work has shown the competitiveness and desire to get better that are the hallmarks of great players.

“Zach loves ball, that’s one thing I’ve learned,” Saleh said, via ESPN. “He’s unflappable in the sense that he doesn’t care whether [it] went good or bad. He wants to know why it went good or bad. He wants to learn from it. He’s wired exactly the way you want all players to be wired. Now it’s a matter of getting as many reps as possible [in training camp].”

The Jets selected Wilson with the second overall pick in the draft and have not given him any competition for the starting job, with only James Morgan and Mike White backing him up. They’ve handed Wilson the leadership reins from Day One, and they like what they’re seeing.

  1. Lots of Jets QBs are wired certain special ways until Belichick fixes that. Its been a trend over the years.

  2. Talk is cheap. Training camp hasn’t even started yet. Let’s see how he plays on the field once the games start.

  3. has high bust potential but he wears a head band and seems very heelish. beware the baby-faced assassin!

  4. The Jets have a great track record of completely destroying the “wires” of young QBs.

  5. It’s that time of year where every 1st and 2nd round draft pick is a future all-pro.

Can’t wait for the season to start.

  6. Why does this sound all so familair? Ever notice you hear nothing out of Foxborough and all the crap teams do a lot of mouth running all summer.

This kid is going to get tuned up.

  7. Chad Pennington is an amazing QB who is going to be a star in this league, which is why Mark Sanchez is going to finally bring the Lombardi back to NYC, because Sam Darnold is a generational talent.

  8. Most great college QBs have to be wired like that or they never would have become a great college QB. BYU ran a very QB friendly offense. Lots of protection. Lots if high percentage passes. Wilson did just about everything that was asked of him. There’s no reason this kid can’t become a great pro if he works hard enough. The Jets have been at or near the bottom of organizations that provide an environment where it’s possible to succeed. At times the kid looks like Joe Montana. Other times he looks like Alex Smith. Joe has four rings, Alex has two playoff wins over his entire career. Lots of Jets fans would be happy with a QB who could deliver just one playoff win.

  9. I feel terrible for Zach. His fan base is right now today warming up their vocal cords in June to boo the crap out of their draft pick in 2022. Also he went from a beautiful part of the country to a very ugly violent crime ridden sewer. Good luck kid.

  10. Joe Douglas was meticulous in his drafting Wilson..he would have stuck with Darnold if he wasn’t so talented..he has a quicker release and is more accurate than Darnold and Sanchez ..he is more mobile and has a stronger arm than Pennington..I understand the negativity we have NEVER had a GM as thorough as Joe Douglas

  11. When you watch Zach Wilson play his arm talent jumps off the screen. Then you see him with his helmet off and you think man this guy looks soft. But don’t let that fool you. The guy is all football yet he has a humble confidence to him. Steve Young calls him the “baby-faced assassin”, that’s definitely a perfect nickname.

You’re right. We haven’t heard anything about cam Newton is new and improved or how the offensive line is the best. Blah blah blah.

He’s trying to emulate another BYU QB: Jim McMahon.

  14. Until he gets knocked out by a man named T.J. Watt in the wild card round as the Steelers will go on to capture like their 12th Lombardi.

Wilson may or may not struggle but at least the Jets aren’t starting washed up quarterbacks from other teams. Also the Jet fans don’t have to endure the pain of watching thier former quarterbacks win with other teams.

He got drafted by the Jets, not the Seahawks or 49ers.

  17. I’ll tell you what. The AFC East is going to be a lot of fun for years to come with Josh Allen, Zach Wilson, Tua and Mac Jones. I think all four of these guys are going to be really good and we’re finally going to have some down to the wire games for the playofffs.

I remember identical things being said about Mark Sanchez.

I remember it being said about Ken O’Brien and many others. It’s what the insecure organization has always done. It’s hilarious.
