There will be no vaccination requirement for fans to attend Bills games this year.

Erie County owns the Bills’ stadium, and county officials have been saying they would not permit unvaccinated fans to attend Bills games this year. But on Sunday Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted that the county has so few COVID-19 cases that he believes there’s no reason for a vaccine requirement at Bills games.

“Based on few new Covid-19 cases (0 on Friday and 4 yesterday out of thousands of tests), low hospitalizations and good vaccination rates, we are rescinding the vaccination requirement to attend Bills games and stadium events,” Poloncarz wrote. “We will revisit in future if circumstances warrant.”

The COVID-19 vaccine is the reason we’ll be able to have full NFL stadiums across the NFL this season. But not every fan in the stands will be fully vaccinated. Some will be benefiting from the wise decisions of the people around them to get vaccinated.

  1. I guess Erie Co. must have reached the 75-85% vax threshold for the ‘herd immunity’ factors to kick in.

  2. As a person who has the good sense to be vaccinated and practice good hygiene I cannot fathom having to be crammed into a seat between two people who selfishly refuse to be. And please do not give us the “you’re vaccinated why should you care” trope. Just imagine number of communicable diseases those anti-vaxxers are carrying.

  3. How does fully vaccinated fans help the unvaccinated people around them? Vaccinated people can still carry the virus but they do not get sick. The people who are not vaccinated are the ones who should be concerned?

  4. Well I guess you can just put the Bills stadium on the map for the next spike in COVID cases, whenever their first preseason game is.

Vaccinated people are less likely to spread the virus than unvaccinated people according to the CDC. And unvaccinated people would need to be concerned regardless.

  6. As they should be, as well as every other team. Some great common sense. I’ll be going unvaccinated to my teams game this year too. Per what should be the ‘usual’, if i don’t feel well on game day, i won’t be attending or going out.

  7. No doubt Bills management reached this decision after discussing it with their accountants and legal team— and hearing their howls of laughter.

  8. Wish they would have come to this conclusion before they sold all the good season tickets.
