Raiders defensive lineman Carl Nassib announced in an Instagram post Monday that he is gay. He received support from the Raiders in social media posts and from owner Mark Davis in interviews with beat reporters.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also now has weighed in on Nassib’s news.

“The NFL family is proud of Carl for courageously sharing his truth today,” Goodell said in a statement. “Representation matters. We share his hope that someday soon statements like his will no longer be newsworthy as we march toward full equality for the LGBTQ+ community. We wish Carl the best of luck this coming season.”

Nassib signed a three-year, $25 million deal in free agency in 2020. He totaled 2.5 sacks and an interception in 14 games.

  1. His truth, my truth, your truth….truth is truth irrespective of anyone’s opinion or take on it.

We can respectfully disagree on just what constitutes “the truth”, but let’s not confuse it with our opinion.

    _______________

Your statements are inconsistent. If “truth is truth regardless of anyone’s opinion” then there should be no disagreement on what constitutes the truth/what the truth actually is.

The problem arises from confusing truths with facts. Truth or true is the opposite of false, and has a relationship with honesty. Facts are things that are proven to be indisputable. Theoretically there should no dispute regarding either. Facts are facts and truth is truth, disagreements to the contrary are incorrect and irrelevant.

  3. Great that the NFL supports him. But Goodell needs another HR assistant. Everything that comes out of his office sounds like a canned, robotic statement.
