The Saints may be holding a quarterback competition at training camp, but there’s no question as to who will help anchor the club’s offensive line for the foreseeable future.

According to multiple reports, New Orleans has agreed to terms with offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk on a five-year extension that keeps him under contract through 2026.

Ramczyk has started all but one regular-season game for the Saints since they selected him at No. 32 overall in 2017. He was entering the last year of his rookie deal after New Orleans exercised his fifth-year option last spring.

NFL Network and ESPN currently report two different contact figures, but both would make Ramczyk the highest-paid right tackle in football. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the deal is worth $90 million with $60 million guaranteed. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the deal is for $96 million, which averages out to $19.2 million a year.

Ramczyk played his college ball at Wisconsin. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2019 and received second-team All-Pro honors in 2018 and 2020.

  1. Quite the journey to get where he deserves to be, from working in a convenience store to top lineman contract. Multiple colleges and tech school until someone made a college offer to take a chance and try out. Great story.

  2. Why do they have 5 year contracts, they end up renegotiating them within 3 years anyway?

  3. Is it just me or is that left tackle money? I guess the price of everything goes up.

  4. The Saints need to start rebuilding. Their window has closed. I would not be surprised if they finish last in the division this year.

  5. He also can play the left side in an emergency. Way to go, New Orleans.

  6. Interesting the money that is available now that the quarterback is not sucking up all the dough

    Regards,

    The rest of the team

  7. Nice going for the former college dropout. It’s been quite the journey. I’m so glad for him.

Remember this team went 9-1 without Brees so I don’t know where the rebuilding stuff is coming from….

  9. Really good tackles who are reliable are super hard to come by. Makes total sense to lock him up, especially since OLs tend to age better than the skill positions. Smart move.

It’s just you. His contract pays three-time All-Pro money.

Everything has a hook back to the salary cap. The signing bonus is the only guarantee in their contract and gets spread over the life of the contract against the cap. That’s why you hear about “dead cap money” after a team cuts a player. There’s more nuance’s to it but this was a brief overview.
