Devin McCourty feels “different atmosphere” around Patriots

The Patriots were one of the busiest teams in free agency this offseason and bringing in bunches of new players means that there are some departures as well.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman, safety Patrick Chung and cornerback Jason McCourty were some of the players to part ways with the Patriots this offseason. Their departures helped push the Patriots in a younger direction and they left safety Devin McCourty without familiar faces who he’d grown very comfortable playing alongside in New England.

Those changes will take some getting used to for the 11-year veteran.

“Obviously it’s different,” McCourty said, via PatsPulpit.com. “I will say the different thing about this year, too, is guys like Chung and Jules; I’ve played with those guys for so long — obviously, J’s my twin brother and the last three years have been awesome — but it’s getting used to just that aspect of some of the guys that you don’t think twice about that you’re taking the field with. . . . So, it’s like almost every time you’re at practice or a game, you just get used to seeing those guys. I think it shows age, when you’re still playing football. Things obviously change in this league, but I would say all those guys, kind of grouping them together has created a different atmosphere.”

McCourty is in the final year of his contract and he turns 34 in August, so it’s not hard to imagine his departure being one of the changes that the team has to adapt to heading into the 2022 season. That’s a question for another time, however, and the more pressing matter is how the Patriots put all of the new pieces together in time for the current campaign.

  1. I think I remember him in particular, bragging about how “Stiddy” used to “eat up” his defense last offseason. Sounds like he will just say whatever

  2. This team is absolutely loaded. You got the best STs in franchise history, best RB group in the conference,, OL, LBs and secondary.

Once Jones or Stidham outproduces Newton in preseason, they’ll have their qb.

  3. It’s up to the leaders esp the QB to impose a winning atmosphere. Look at the other teams who came loaded but lost anyway. Brady has that intangible to will his team to win. Step up! Go Pats!

Best RB group in the conference behind the Titans, Browns, Colts, Ravens, and Raiders.

Titans? Henry is 1 player. I am talking skill set and depth. The Harris/Michel duo averaged 5+ yds per carry last year with Newton at QB and no TE. Do the math.

James White is still the best scatback in the conference and JJ Taylor is ready to go after his redshirt 2020 season.

Rahmondre Stevenson could possibly bounce Michel in camp. The group is deep, talented and versatile.

    Baltimore? Please.

Baltimore doesn’t have a James White, Taylor or a high IQ rookie RB. They Edwards who is close to Harris’s talent level and Dobbins another likely low IQ OSU player. Not remotely close to NEs group.

The Browns have no scatback either although Chubb and Hunt are probably the best duo in the conference. This isn’t fantasy football. There are other boards to talk about that.

You said pretty much the same thing last season. Of course you also said you would leave if the Pats failed to win the AFCE.

False and false. There was a pandemic and then they decided to cancel
camps. If that’s the best ya have as a bandwagon troll, you will have to do better. For you to claim coaching doesn’t matter, means your iq is low just like you’ve proven on here regarding comprehending the virus and the vaccine. lol

As for the bet, I never would have said that. I’ve always offered leaving for the postseason in these bets, never for good. That’s in your head.

  8. Just from last year, the linebackers room gained Hightower, Van Noy, Judon, and Ronnie Perkins. This should be a fun Belichick defense to watch this year. He has players with the skill sets for some wild blitz packages.

  9. Remember haters jealousy and envy are incurable diseases dont hate the Pat’s just root for you’re own team.

  10. The Patriots players aged a year, Belichick did something very unBelichickian in overpaying all these free agents. I don’t think the Pats are making the playoffs any time soon unless they draft better.
