Odell Beckham: It’s going to be a special year

Many Browns offensive players skipped voluntary portions of the team’s offseason program in order to hold their own workouts with quarterback Baker Mayfield in Austin, Texas.

Wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham were part of that group and Landry had a video crew join him to document the sessions at what was named “Camp Mayfield” for a series on YouTube. That crew captured conversations between the two wideouts about Beckham’s return from last year’s torn ACL.

Landry noted that “you’re in your head” when coming back from a serious injury and Beckham noted that every step forward in the rehab process was met by new questions about how the recovery process would go. The video shows Beckham running and cutting at full speed while catching passes and expressing confidence about what’s to come despite any lingering doubts about his condition.

“It’s going to be a special year, bro,” Beckham said to Landry, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Reviews on Beckham’s condition from Mayfield and head coach Kevin Stefanski during mandatory minicamp were positive, which should serve to support Beckham and anyone else who thinks the Browns will continue rising during the 2021 season.

  1. I can’t wait until the regular season and we stop hearing from every player how great they and their team are …..

  2. He’ll likely injure himself in a camp-related incident involving a teammate, spectator or Gatorade jug. The Browns are wasting their time with the manchild and his ego.

  3. I would trade this guy so fast. Outside the one great catch, what’s he ever done?

  4. These players skipped voluntary, organized workouts with the team in order to hold their own workouts? I realize the Browns and Coach Stefanski can’t really say much about it, since their activities weren’t mandatory, but it sure seems like a red flag regarding the “team-first” culture they’re trying to build in Cleveland. If Mayfield was a better player, I bet he’d be an insufferable diva – and with Beckham in his group? Uh oh.

  5. Too bad the Browns have Baker Mayfield at QB. Hes the reason the Browns will never be a great team.

  6. I’m glad he’s on the Browns but OBJ is not the best WR on the team. Landry is. Landry also makes the entire WR group better by showing them the proper work ethic and mindset you need to have to make it in the NFL.

You DO realize that Browns fan is the subject matter expert in bad quarterback play. We’ve seen it 28 years in a row. So let’s just say you’re wrong and leave it at that.

  8. Here is why the Browns got better without OBJ, because they were already getting better with him. Sure they had a rough game to start the year, but they were starting to put it together after that, and OBJ was in a 2 game solid stretch before getting injured. And one can say Baker tried to force him the ball, maybe, what young QB wouldn’t try to lean on one of the best receivers in the game? Granted in his absence, Baker learned to trust his receivers and spread the ball around with ease, but he also looked to be improving after the 1st game regardless. Our o-line is a big part of success last year, as was Stefanski, it wasn’t just OBJ went down and helped us get to the playoffs. Baker improved a ton last year, and learned not to force the ball to anybody, so tell me how OBJ would hinder him now, he’s over that. One of 2 things will happen this year, either Baker takes an even further step forward with OBJ, or OBJ goes diva about lack of targets and gets traded. This team is not going to allow OBJ to take over, this is clearly Baker’s team. I feel like people mistake the stuff he was able to get away with in NY with here. In NY, he had one of the worst rosters in football, so it’s easy to get what you want. Here, he’s surrounded by 18 solid players waiting to take his spot. Trust me, OBJ won’t make it 2 games in Cleveland this year if he goes diva mode.

  9. I think Baker must have had some relations with a certain cowboys fan. All this guy does is try to talk trash about him. Hmmm.
