Aaron Rodgers will “figure things out in a couple weeks”

Earlier this week, on a different golf course, Aaron Rodgers answered “we’ll see” when asked about his future. Apparently, “we’ll see” will come in a “couple weeks.”

During the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe on Saturday, Rodgers was asked about his future.

“I’m going to enjoy the hell out of this week,” Rodgers said, “and then I’m going to get back to working out, and figure things out in a couple weeks.”

Rodgers and the Packers remain in a kerfuffle that prompted the league MVP to skip the offseason program, including the mandatory minicamp last month.

No one, other than Rodgers, seems to know what the quarterback will do when training camp opens later this month. Will he show up?

The Packers kickoff the season Sept. 12.

  1. I know what he’ll do, he will play for the Packers next season.

  2. He can sit on his ass and pay the Packers back, retire, or play. There, Aaron. Made it simple for you.

  3. Two years ago the Packers traded away a first round pick and a fourth round pick to move up in the first round to draft a QB. They traded away those high picks because they decided to separate from their MVP QB, Aaron Rodgers. Am I missing something?

  4. Packers should’ve traded this clown. If he doesn’t want to be there…
At least old Brett said as much.

  5. Doesn’t he have other options? Wait to report until a couple days before the start of the season? Wait until week 10/11 and still accrue the year?
Say he shows up on Sept 9th, what to the Packers do? Play him? Sit him for the first week, then sit Love? I am sure Love would be fine with bustin’ butt all camp/preseason, to play one game(or none) and be benched. Maybe you pay Rodgers $35 million to play back up.
To all the “you signed the contract, you play” folks: should the Packers be held to the same standard? If the contract is for 3 more years, then no trading/releasing him. You signed the the contract….
Frankly, Rodgers has some legit beefs. Imagine if the Packers traded up for Jefferson instead of Love: thinkin’ 88 catches for 1400 yards and 7 TDs MAY have made a difference last year. Jefferson & Adams would be, arguably, the best WR tandem in the NFL.
Rodgers plays at the highest level for 12 years, but the Packers, being so fixated on draft & develop, never get him a first round skill player, and rarely spend a nickel on significant offensive upgrades if FA. It’s been: Here Aaron, takes these scrubs and lead us to the promised land.
Now they want to use him until they decide Love is the new guy. And everyone thinks Rodgers is a diva/problem. That dude is smart, very smart, and he wants to end his career on HIS terms. Go for it.

  6. Poor guy. Life has been so rough for him. I hope he hangs in there. Maybe he just needs a hug.

  7. July 27 is the opening for training camp. You’ll find out more in less than 3 weeks.

  8. To all the “you signed the contract, you play” folks: should the Packers be held to the same standard? If the contract is for 3 more years, then no trading/releasing him. You signed the the contract….
    ++++++++++++++++-+—-
The value of the contract includes the extra value for early termination. If contracts were fully guatpranteed, the would be lot lower value. When the team ciputs a palyer before the contract ends, that follows the standard union contract. There is nothing dishonorable about teams exercising their contract option. The players union agreed to that.

  9. Imagine if the Packers traded up for Jefferson instead of Love: thinkin’ 88 catches for 1400 yards and 7 TDs MAY have made a difference last year.

48 TD and 4 INT last year.

Yes, Jefferson would have been the #2, but him being there wouldn’t have necessarily moved the needle a ton.

12 should be more upset that Love was taken over any other warm body on defense who could have help GB get off the field on 3rd down in big games.

They did not lose the Title Game because Jordan Love was picked over Jefferson or any other WR, and that’s a fact jack.

  10. He’s becoming quite the whiner – shut up and play – or don’t – life goes on – what a massive ego!

  11. He won’t do it but he should sit out and force the packers to trade him! If he plays for the packers he’ll never win another championship! The teams that would trade for him are much closer to winning one. The packers have no idea how to build a team with current management. The only thing he’ll accomplish by playing for them is making them look better than they are. The packers made the decision to draft his replacement rather than getting him pieces to win with. So he should force the packers to use him and move on. The packers will realize real fast they better get picks for Rodgers right away to help their team. It’s that or lose their core to free agency.

  12. I have heard so many coaches that they routinely draft quarterback even with a great starter. In the event of injury you have to have a good back up or your season goes down with your starter injured.

  13. Nobody is buying his act… And I can tell you this my Vikings can’t wait to put him on his back over and over again

  14. To those of you who keep saying you’re tired of this soap opera, remember, the only ones that are turning this into a soap opera, is the media. Rodgers has said nothing, the Packers have said nothing and the media is doing everything they can to keep this non story alive.

  15. They were so close to being real contenders and they decided to not go for it and think about the future.

  16. Slippery it is definitely a soap opera. Rodgers has definitely said things, and not only what he said but his actions not showing up for work. The Qb should be the first one there. Its really messed up in Green Bay

  17. If Rodgers does not show up for training camp I would sit him and deactivate him. Don’t trade him just let him sit and watch. We don’t need someone who doesn’t care or who is just going to wing it. It would be nice if they would sit him for the next 3 years. That would shut these guys up.

  18. You cant tell me he didnt tell one or two players of his intentions and they’ve known all along what he is going to do but was told to keep it quiet. The players are just too calm about all this rather then being a little upset that he would abandon them.
My money says he shows for camp and plays. That was always the plan. Plan A of being traded went by by a long time ago so yes plan b in place

  19. It makes little difference to me; stays or goes, plays or not…….and I like the guy! I cheer for and support the Green Bay Packers, and that includes Rodgers (if he shows up.) If not, Jordan Love will be receiving my standing ovation at the home opener. It’s just a game, and no one player is more important than the team.

  20. See ya July 27th A-Rod!

Have been saying, and 100% confident in that since April.

  21. Funny, when favre was qb he didn’t even want to show up for training camp towards the end. No one cared. After 16 years with the team and the same basic core from last year I don’t think missing ota’s or a 3 day mini-camp matters in the least.

Yeah….I’m sure he is really afraid of a team with zero championships under its belt

  23. Packer fans who have turned on Rodgers will welcome him back with open arms and rehang his framed picture back in their homes

  24. Who is putting Who on their backs ?

For his career, Rodgers boasts a 15-8-1 record against the Vikings, trailing on the Bears and Lions in terms of winning percentage against an opponent. He has thrown for 5,839 yards and 47 touchdowns against the Vikings, and both of those totals rank higher than against any other team.

So many coaches? That sounds good, but you can please provide a few instances where a coach, who was only about one player away from winning another super bowl, and had a current MVP QB, instead of drafting a couple final pieces, traded away a first and a fourth round pick to move higher up into the first round to draft another QB. I’ve been following the NFL draft for over 50 years, and I just don’t remember “so many” coaches doing that. When you say “so many” it sounds like it’s being done all the time. Please clue us in.

  26. Ota’s are tedius..training camp is tedius..he’s been doing this for 16 years..he’ll come back b4 the season or the Packers will find out Jordan Love is good and they’ll Trade Rodgers..all that honoring the contact talk s nonsense bc NFL contacts have few guarantees so a player’s only option will s to hold out

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Would that be unusual for a sports fan, detective?

  28. See it all the time from aging MVP’s. He could fall off really quick either way.

  29. This is no longer about money or about prior draft picks. This is about a guy who no longer desires to play football.

  30. It’s ok. Vikings QB Brett Favre also took some time to figure things out before having the best season of his career in 2009.

  31. You better hope he comes back Packers fan, unless you enjoy watching bad football. If he leaves or you trade him, get ready for 4-13 and 5-12 every year. Your roster is trash without Rodgers. He is the only reason the Packers win.

  32. If AR were the only reason that GB wins, then you’ve never played a down of football in your life.

Then why would he be annoyed they didn’t draft a receiver in the first round last year? He obviously doesn’t need the help, especially if he’s the only reason the Packers win.

    If Favre played the best season of his career and the Vikings still never sniffed a Super Bowl…….it tells me two things;
    1) They never will, and 2) It takes more than a quarterback for any team to win.

actually they did sniff the Superbowl until the refs took it. My advice to you is watch the NFCC Vikings/Saints before you post something like that. The Saints coach got banned for a year for cheating and the refs should have been fired after that game.

It wasn’t the ref’s. Every year it’s their “vaunted” defenses coming up small in big games, and Viking Fan knows it. That’s why it takes more than the best quarterback.

  37. At this point I am completely indifferent to the situation. If he plays, he plays. If he’s traded, he’s traded. It is what it is.

Yup, until his last pass of the season when it mattered most. It was completed, just wrong jersey .
