Martavis Bryant on suspended list after not appearing at Toronto Argonauts camp

Martavis Bryant was once among the most promising young receivers in football. Now he may be down to his last chance in the Canadian Football League.

Bryant, who is under contract to the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, has not yet showed up to camp and head coach Ryan Dinwiddie appears to be getting frustrated with him.

“We’ve had some contact with him. I’m getting a little impatient with the thing. We need to get him up here now if he’s going to make an impact on our team,” Dinwiddie said, via 3DownNation.com. “The ball is in his court, he needs to get his passport and get those things squared away. We’ll see how that’s going to play out.”

As a rookie with the Steelers in 2014, Bryant showed himself to be an outstanding deep threat, averaging 21.1 yards per catch. He also had a strong second season in 2015, but he was suspended for the entire 2016 season, didn’t play as well in 2017, and was a disappointment when he was traded to the Raiders in 2018. If he can’t make the most of his opportunity in the CFL, his football career is likely over.

  1. He was really tracking to have a solid NFL career. Weird how the Not For Long (NFL) really happens to so many. Sometimes it’s the injury bug, lack of elite talent or circumstances simply beyond the player’s full control. All too often, like it appears here, it’s on the person and the choices made.

  2. ““The ball is in his court, he needs to get his passport and get those things squared away. We’ll see how that’s going to play out.””

Current wait to renew or get a passport is 18 weeks, 12 if you pay the rush fee.

Good luck with getting one anytime soon since he doesn’t apparently have a valid one at the moment.

  3. There is zero chance anybody signs with a CFL team and doesn’t get it specifically spelled out to them they need a passport. (And that’s doubly so now since there are so many extra travel rules to Canada due to the pandemic.) The fact he doesn’t have a passport now says he never was serious about playing up there.

  4. WOW, even my Raiders cut this fool. Come on son get your head right already, this is your last chance.

Suspended in 2 leagues at same time? This kid’s got a bright future.

How you gonna get fired on your day off?

  6. Another receiver that Ben made great and has lost his way after. Ben is underrated. Period.

  7. This guy, Josh Gordon, so many others. I’ll never understand. They’re physically in the top 0.5% of all human beings with a golden ticket to make so much money in a few years they’ll never have to work a real job a day in their life. And they just literally set a match to it. The only thing more frustrating than seeing that is seeing how many chances they get at the expense of other guys with less talent but who have their heads on straight.
