The Colts won’t pay A+ money for B players. But Colts owner Jim Irsay will pay A+ money for A+ music memorabilia.

Via Mike Wells of ESPN.com, Irsay has purchased a piano used by Elton John during his tours from 1974 through 1993. He signed the item, “Enjoy this as much as I have, Elton John.”

Irsay secured the Steinway & Sons Model D Grand Piano through bidding conducted by Heritage Auctions on Saturday in Dallas with a bid of $915,000.

It’s just the latest acquisition made by Irsay. Two years ago, he bought a guitar used by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd for nearly $4 million and John Lennon’s piano for more than $700,000. In 2016, Irsay purchased one of Prince’s guitars for nearly $140,000.

  1. I picture Carson Wentz looking up from the bottom of the pile after one of those C- offensive lineman allows another sack to see Ol’ Jimmy boy playing his heart out on that piano in his suite.

  2. Hopefully he opens a museum and displays his unique colkection of music memorabilia for everyone to enjoy and not keep them hidden in a closed room somewhere.

He might as well because it only takes around 30 seconds to see all the trophies commemorating the Indy Colts success

  4. I admire this guy’s musical taste, but I’m glad he’s not the owner of my team. His focus is always elsewhere.

I’d love for my owner to have outside interests and not do too much meddling. Maybe Dan Snyder is more your type? Someone who can get in the draft room and force you to take guys like RG III and Dwayne Haskins. Washington fans probably wish Snyder had an interest in music, or something other than trying to micro-manage the football team. I’m sure that’s not what you meant. Lol.

  6. So you are comparing money spent by an owner of a team on personal items vs. money spent on players within a salary cap system?

  7. How would nhpats know what a trophy is? His joke of a state doesn’t even have division 1 sports let alone a pro team if any kind. Good comedy.

  8. He could have gotten mint rookie cards of Lew Alcindor, Joe Namath, Pete Rose, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, Dr. J, Terry Bradshaw and Walter Payton.

  9. He is one of the best owners in the league, and can spend his money however he wants
