In the CFL, Paxton Lynch is getting paid peanuts in comparison to NFL salary

Five years ago, quarterback Paxton Lynch signed a four-year, $9.476 million contract with the Broncos. He’s currently getting far less than that in Saskatchewan.

Via Justin Dunk of 3downnation.com, Lynch will receive a salary of only $65,000 from the Roughriders in 2022. He also gets $3,600 for housing, $200 for each game in which he’s on the active roster, and $500 for every game in which he takes at least 51 percent of the snaps.

It’s obviously not about the money for Lynch. He’s trying to re-establish himself, so that he can get back to the NFL. Where the minimum salary is a lot more than $65,000. For a player with Lynch’s experience, he’d make nearly $1 million.

Meanwhile, the quarterback for whom the Cowboys settled after failing to get Lynch in the first-round of the 2016 draft, Dak Prescott, is making $40 million per year.

  1. I can think of at least one other former NFL QB that ought to consider the Canadian game to show that he is still worthy of playing

  2. this is what qbs do to play the game they love and try to get back, rather than throw temper tantrums and accusations about why they arent in the nfl

  3. “For a player with Lynch’s experience, he’d make nearly $1 million.”
    _______

Assuming somebody offered him a job, sure. But he hasn’t been on an NFL game day roster since 2019 and hasn’t appeared in a game since 2017. He wasn’t even on a practice squad prior to signing with the CFL.

  4. Shoot I would play some QB for sixty something thousand dollars right this second.

  5. 65k for 4-5 months of playing the game he loves. And I’m sure he has lots more money in the bank. Not bad…

  6. The fan base in Saskatchewan is as rabid as the fanatics in the NFL. The league is a pass oriented league with 3 downs to get 10 yards or turn it over. Could be a great move for Lynch.

  7. I didn’t follow his career at all. But, I think it takes guts to step back like this, a lot of guys would be too embarrassed. Maybe it won’t work out, but he’s giving it a shot.

  8. This is what happens when you have the physical talent but want to play too much Xbox. It never clicked mentally with Lynch because he didn’t apply himself.

  9. I’d hold his clipboard for $20 an hour and one bag of Big League Chew per game.

  10. He was a failure in the NFL but who know about the CFL, maybe he’ll play well there. Good for him either way, he’s still getting to do what he loves most.

  11. There are many players who would have benefited from playing up in Canada. Manziel should have owned the league.

  12. It is still about the money. It about proving you are good enough to play in the league to make the money. He isn’t doing it not to make money.

  13. I assume that $65K salary is in Canadian dollars, which would translate to $51,725 American.

  14. Cody Fajardo is waaaay better QB than Paxton. Theres no way Paxton will beat Fajardo out as a stater for the Roughriders. Sounds like Paxton will be riding the Pine unless Fajardo gets injured assuming Pax can make the team. The CFL is a hugely pass oriented mobile QB league. If he can’t be mobile and accurate he will be nothing more than a back up who will last a yr or two seeing minimal play. I honestly can’t think of any CFL who starter is worse than Lynch. Maybe Montreal or the Ottawa….maybe

  15. I wonder if he is still in “last in first out” mode. You think after 5 years he and the teams would grasp lack of work effort is major factor in who succeeds.

  16. I’m paid peanuts compared to pro athletes in the NFL and NBA.
    So what?

The CFL and where I work isn’t the NBA or NFL.
    Thats life.

  17. so you’re telling me instead of making up a story about being blackballed he went to canada to prove himself…hats off to him

Fajardo is indeed a great QB, should be fun to watch these two duke it out in camp.
