Saints’ stadium now called the Caesars Superdome

The Saints’ stadium is still the Superdome, but this season it’s getting a new name.

The Saints will play at the Caesars Superdome after the Louisiana state legislature’s Joint Budget Committee approved a 20-year contract to name the stadium after Caesars, according to Amie Just of the Times-Picayune.

For the last 10 years the stadium has been known as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, but the contract with Mercedes-Benz expired last week. Caesars had been expected to get the naming-rights contract for months, and it became official today.

The Saints’ lease at the stadium gives the team the naming rights, so the money Caesars pays will go to the team. The Saints have said they will dedicate all of that money to stadium improvements.

As a gambling company, Caesars once would have been unable to do business with the NFL. But in recent years the league has embraced legal sports gambling, and Caesars also has a contract to be the league’s official casino partner.

In addition to the Saints, the Superdome plays host to major events in college football and other sports, and it will host its eighth Super Bowl in February of 2025.

  1. Wow – something got approved in a week or less. Very strange how politicians can move swiftly when corporate big money is involved.

  2. Julius Caesar would have taken the Superdome over the palace anyways. Most likely blown away at the endless amounts of ramps there are in that stadium.

  3. Just a year earlier and Brees vs Brady could have been the “geezers at caesars” !

  4. That stadium should never host another Super Bowl since the lights went out allowing that quarterback of the 49ers that year to regroup in a game that should have finished 55-7. Heck Caesars probably had something to do with it. Seriously with all these Billion Dollar venues in the league why would they go there the place is a dump and Hurricane Katrina house of horrors – stadium should have been imploded afterwards!

  5. If the Saints don’t come up with a trick play titled Pizza Pizza, I’ll be very disappointed.

Gambling will ruin the sport…. Oh wait Goddel already did…

I love how this development triggers all of the anti-gambling zealots. Do you seriously think that gambling on the NFL did not exist prior to it’s legalization?
