Happy 44th birthday, Tom Brady

He’s gonna need a bigger cake.

At some point today, two score and four candles will be planted into seaweed-based icing on an asparagus-based cake for Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

TB12 is 12 plus 32 today, as he prepares for his 22nd NFL season. To put that in perspective, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson turns 22 today.

Brady has defied Father Time, through his obsession with diet and specific exercises aimed at making his body more pliable and thus able to withstand the physical stress of football. Whatever he’s doing, it’s working. Last year, Brady won his seventh Super Bowl. This year, his team is expected by many to return to the championship game.

Under Brady’s current career timeline, he’ll play two more seasons. He recently has said that, after those two seasons, he’ll decide whether to continue. The legs not the arm become the key; he’ll be able to throw like he does into his 50s. If/when he can’t get away from guys half his age and younger, he’ll get hit and inevitably hurt. Eventually, that will be that.

But that isn’t that just yet. Brady just keeps going. And time will tell whether he’s an aberration or he’s blazing a trail for others to perform at a high level deep into their 40s.

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM!!!
We STILL love you & miss you here in New England!!!
You just keep doing what you do & we’ll just keep enjoying watching you do it!!!Will always cheer for you (until game 4 this year) OR if we have to face you again…..
    UNDISPUTED GOAT!!!!
PS: Think we got your replacement finally…. Well at least it looks that way so far… Hope you’ll get to meet him on the battlefield….Mac Jones is his name….wish I could be there in person to witness the game… but alas, I’ll be in AZ CHEERING FOR THE PATS…. ( & secretly for you too)
    GO PATS!!!

  2. He should be able to play until he is 50 the way the rules are to protect the quarterbacks now days. The diet has little or nothing to do with it.

  3. Steelers fan here, but you can respect the best ever. I am also glad he is out of the AFC. I am 39, and I feel few aches here and there. This man is 44 and still playing at an incredible level. I hope football fans can truly understand we might never see this again and enjoy it.

  4. You gotta say greatest champion ever. In football, you have one shot to win the game, other sports you have 7 game series. Will never see his accomplishments ever equaled in football.

  5. No player in any professional team sport has accomplished more in a career!

    Truly amazing!

  6. It’s not Brady’s body that’s impressive. It’s his mind and drive to be great. Without that nothing else matters.

  7. I don’t understand the logic behind Brady being the “GOAT.” His team filmed over 40 games from 2000-2007 illegally, which resulted in 3 out of his 7 championships, and he was caught deflating footballs. Can someone help me out here?

  8. Mortimer,
Read up on Bill Russell. Or Yogi Berra. Maybe some others. One guy in NHL won 11 as well,, I think. Otto Graham with 7 in 10 years and lost other 3 in Championship game.

  9. If Brady plays two more years (plus the playoffs), here are some of the milestones he will likely reach: With 36 more touchdown passes, regular season and playoffs combined, he will reach 700 for his career; if he amasses 8,347 yards passing, he will reach the unimaginable total of 100,000 yards, or about 57 miles; with 17 touchdown passes in the playoffs, he will have 100; finally (this will require a third year more), he needs 36 more victories to reach 300, the equivalent of 20, 15-win seasons. The numbers are astonishing. We are fortunate to be witnesses to his unparalleled greatness.

  10. No player in any professional team sport has accomplished more in a career!
    ——————-
    Bill Russell NBA 11 championships
Yogi Berra MLB – 10 championships
Joe DiMaggio MLB – 9 championships
4 more MLB players with 8 championships

FYI, Michael Jordan would have had only 3 championships if NBA was 1 game series in playoff, like NFL.

  12. In the NFL, Brady is only tied with Otto Graham and it took Brady twice as long to do so!

  13. I’m happy that the Patriots cap isn’t ruined for the next 5 years but I miss the guy. Not only for his football prowess but for his personality and effect on the region. Happy Birthday.

Pre-SB championships when there were 8 teams in the league are about as meaningful as preseason wins

  16. The ‘one-and-done” element of football makes it impossible to compare the NFL with team sports whose postseason consists of best of five or best of seven. An entire postseason is typically just three games for Brady. Come out flat, have a poor performance; your season is over. There is no Game Two upcoming.

  17. Every time he gets insulted or falsely accused of cheating, he wins another ring and pushes back his retirement another year. So keep doing it I guess, 22 seasons and you still haven’t figured it out. Happy birthday champ.

  18. Brady only has 9 million followers on Instagram and 2 million on Twitter, which leads me to believe the majority of the country doesn’t think he’s a GOAT type. In contrast, look at Lebron James who has nearly 100 million Instagram followers.

Imagine viewing life solely thru the prism of social media. Just sad.

  20. “His team filmed over 40 games from 2000-2007 illegally”

The only game that was filmed “illegally” was the first half of game one in 2007 against the Jets. There was no prohibition on sideline video before that.

Also you can still shoot video of the other teams from any other approved location, which is something like 30′ further away at the front of the stands. I know its hard to understand that a zoom lens would get the same results from a little bit farther away.

Dumb logic. And Brady might have zero if the NFL was best of 7.

In the NFL, Brady is only tied with Otto Graham and it took Brady twice as long to do so!

    =====================================

Otto Graham was a remarkable player for his time. However, he did things in a league (leagues) that had between 8 and 12 teams, played 14 game seasons, and the post-season was one game per year in 7 of the 10 seasons he played. In his entire career, Graham had to play in only three post-season games that were not championship games, and he he was 2 for 3 in those games. Brady played in 35 post-season “lose one and you’re done” games, and won 77 percent of those games. I do not wish to denigrate Graham’s accomplishments, but I don’t think for a second that he ever could have done what Brady has done.

Two other things: With his first win this fall, Brady will become the oldest quarterback ever to start and win a game. With the New England game, he will become the 10th oldest person ever to play in a game. Of the 9 who will then be ahead of him, 5 were pure kickers, 2 played in the early 1920’s (8 game seasons max,and one of them didn’t start playing pro ball until he was 40), one came out of retirement to play in one game, and the last was a kicker (Blanda) who completed a grand total of seven passes over the four seasons he played after he turned 44.

  23. Older than me and still winning Super Bowls. Meanwhile I’m looking for excuses not to hit the gym today. Have to respect this guy.

This is 100% incorrect. Your team lost a first round pick and was fined heavily. Plus the league destroyed multiple tapes and notes.

  26. If I’m Tom Brady, I’m going for 10 Super Bowl Rings total. He should go to another team to try and win a Super Bowl. No one will ever accomplish what he’s done. It may possibly unbreakable in our lifetime.

Yes, I can help you out. Your not logical to begin with. They did not film 40 games illegally; after a memo came out from NFL they continued to film one jets game from the side line like all other teams did prior. Your premises are so ridiculous. And deflategate has been proven by many independent analysis that temperature effected balls. Even if Brady did alter the balls PSI a bit; so F ing what; all QB’s did it. And remember he won a SB that year when they started checking PSI? I feel sorry for fans like you to be honest!

  28. I was really struggling to conceptualize this notion of 22 years, luckily for me you provided that handy Zach Wilson perspective. Keep up the work.

Roger Goodell wrote in a letter to the Patriots that “this episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field”…the keyword here that dispels your argument is that the rules were “longstanding.”

  32. There are a few guys here who will be forever tortured by what Brady did to their teams and for so long. Their arguments—if you can call them that—reflect far-reaching desperation that should be, and rightfully is, embarrassing.

Guys—the debate has been over for a loooong time now. You can move on to whatever else you’re irrationally upset about now.

Brady won the physical game, and in your cases, the mental one as well.

So the long-standing rule was one game? What year did this rule come about?

Come on, it is extremely hard to win SB. Bucs peaked at right time, and several key plays went Bucs way, one was Jared Cook’s fumble when the score was 20-13, the other was 4th and 3 before Scotty’s TD in NFCCG. It will be crazy if you think Bucs have 50+% of chance of winning SB.

  36. At least the desperate attempts to diminish his status as the greatest clutch player and team leader in sports now grope in the fog for Otto Graham’s mythical 7 “championships” . No more foolishness about even the great joe Montana whom only Brady surpasses.

  37. So the long-standing rule was one game? What year did this rule come about?———————/—————-/—————/————–/
    What
    Year?? Seriously it was 2007!!!
What’s more interesting is that TB12 the goat did not sell fake game worn jerseys!! I wonder who did though and was not disciplined by the NFL!!

  38. I was wondering how many are even old enough to remember when Tom Brady wasn’t even in the conversation for who was the GOAT? Now he is, and likely will be for sometime. It behooves one to understand there was a time, not long ago when Dan Marino was still in the discussion, and he lost in his only appearance in a Superbowl.

  39. What
    Year?? Seriously it was 2007!!!

So now you are blaming Goodell? Even the Packers caught the Pats videotaping their sidelines in 2006. It was a rule that was in place throughout the Belichick era in New England. And no, Patriots fans, you still cannot videotape your opponents considering the fact your team was caught cheating a third time against the Bengals.

Lmao. The super bowl is the easiest trophy to win in sports. You play 3 or 4 games in a month. And if you get a lot of breaks you can go all the way. Try playing every other night blocking pucks, getting cross checked and driven against the boards but the same team who wants to kill you for 7 games and doing that over a span of 2 months. That’s about a million times harder. It’s not even close.

  42. Try playing every other night blocking pucks,

    ————————-

I see, you mean only Bill Russell played every other night, the teams he played against played once a week.

So the rule was in place since 2000? When was the rule established? Was Goodell commissioner or was it before his time? These are easily answerable questions.

Since when? Every team does this every game. Scouts do this before they play one another. Have you been tested for idiocy?
