O.J. Simpson avoids Los Angeles, for one very specific reason

One would think that running back O.J. Simpson avoids going to Los Angeles because that’s where he killed two people 27 years ago. He avoids L.A. for a different, but related, reason.

“I have trouble with L.A.,” Simpson recently told Tim Graham of TheAthletic.com. “People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it. I really don’t know who did this.”

The article, published as part of a countdown of the top 100 players in NFL history (Simpson came in at No. 41), gives Simpson plenty of room to say plenty of the tone-deaf things he has said for years now. Simpson also boasts that he currently has a pretty good life.

“How many Americans, even today, wouldn’t like to live my life?” Simpson said. “I don’t work. I play golf four or five days a week. I go out to dinner a couple of nights with friends. People want to buy me drinks. I’m always taking pictures with people. Ladies hug me.

“People truly care for me. You don’t know who truly cares about you until you’ve gone through some serious stuff, and I’ve gone through serious stuff. The media won’t say it, but that is my life. I’m living a good life now.”

Despite the civil judgment that followed his if-it-doesn’t-fit-you-must-acquittal, Simpson continues to profess his innocence, and to believe that the real killer is indeed out there.

“I figured eventually somebody would confess to something, you know?” Simpson said. “I had one suspect I told my lawyers to look at. I still think he might be involved, but I can’t talk about it.”

He probably can’t talk about it because he’d be immediately sued for defamation. Not that the person he defames would ever see any money; they’d have to get in line behind the families of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, who are still trying to get the millions that Simpson owes.

Maybe he’s right. Maybe, someday, the real killer will confess to something. And maybe it will happen when the now-74-year-old Simpson is purging his soul as he prepares to meet his own end.

  1. He’s like the kid covered in cake frosting telling his mom he didn’t eat any cake…except it wasn’t cake.

  2. When the prosecutors said “there is a mountain of evidence, they weren’t boasting. The evidence of guilt was overwhelming. Unfortunately, all of the ancillary nonsense that was brought into the trial resulted in an acquittal.

  3. Wow Florio, impressive, this is the most spot on article you have written in a while. Maybe one day OJ will grow a conscience and tell the truth…I doubt it though.

  4. Number 41 on the list of the greatest? Someone’s kidding, right? Second best running back, ever and top-10 all-time player. People just can’t separate the on field from the off field.

  5. Once venue was established, the acquittal, judicial payback if you will, was assured.

  6. but I might be sitting next to whoever did it.

    ——————————

Only if you’re sitting next to a mirror.

  7. Didn’t he promise to go looking for the real killer? Think he found him the next day when he looked in the mirror.

  8. Wow! He said if he was found not guilty he would search for the killer every day. I’m guessing the killer was spotted on the golf courses he plays on 4 to 5 days a week. Or he already found the killer the 1st day he was found not guilty when he looked in the mirror.

  9. What’s funny is he sounds just like another lunatic and people here actually love that guy.

  10. He’s right, the killer is out there, free, thanks to a jury that wouldn’t have convicted him if had got in the stand and admitted what he did.

  11. Seems like if any other football players are accused most of what I read around here is “innocent until proven guilty”. Yet OJ is actually found not guilty but somehow he is still guilty? You guys confuse me.

  12. The term “trial of the century” is used too loosely. In this situation, for those old enough to remember, the term is accurate. It helped set the tone for what America has become.

  13. Prosecutors were incompetent. Literally, and at least one of them went on to star teaching in a law school. Oh the horror.

  14. I am almost considering becoming religious just so I can believe in hell and rest easy knowing this guy has a first class ticket.

  15. The Oscar winning documentary, O.J.: Made in America is one of my favorites. I never can understand how a lawyer can throw away his or her morals just to win a case. Johnnie Cochran was absolutely brilliant! Before the jurors were to take a tour of O.J.‘s house, he had all of the pictures of O.J. with his white friends and white golfing buddies removed and replaced by pictures of him with black friends and African art. When he introduced race into the trial, it was all over for Marcia Clark and her team.

  16. I think OJ Simpson is trying to get people to believe the garbage lies that are flying out of his mouth, but unfortunately only people who really love him believe him. Honestly I wouldn’t be shocked if his own lawyer Cochran didn’t believe his lies, but just took the case for fame and money.

And FYI to Simpson, if that guy you “suspected” did the crime, why not tell the police or someone about it when you were found “not guilty?” That’s why I feel he’s full of garbage, he already has found the real killer when he found a mirror and saw himself

  17. OJ won’t come to LA because he’s afraid he’ll sit next to the real killer? This from the guy who wrote the book “If I did it, here’s how it happened”.

Live the good life while you can, OJ. No golf or parties where you’re headed.

  18. There is a book called “If I had done it”…read that and it tell exactly how it went down. He didn’t act alone either, someone drove him to the scene.

  19. I don’t understand all this hate for a pillar of society.

Since the crime occurred, OJ has vowed to be relentless in his search for the real killer.

Mr. Simpson has searched every bunker, green and fairway near and far in search of the person who did this awful thing.

  20. He was found innocent in the court of law. Civil cases are much different so to say he killed two people could be consider slander.

  21. It would have been better for everyone if Simpson would have just killed himself in the back of the white Bronco. He’s a miserable wretch.

  22. If the murdering sociopath paid the Goldmans the money that was awarded to them, the Juice wouldn’t be living such a high life.

  23. After many years of investigation (all of it on my dime), I have definitively proof of who killed Nicole brown.

Turns out is was her former husband OJ Simpson. Who woulda thaought?

    Then I guess I’m a slanderer.

Quite frankly if this were tried today he would be found guilty , Simply because dna evidence is not new anymore and people have seen CSI.

    Her.blood.was.in.his.car.

  25. Just when I thought OJ Simpson couldn’t be anymore disgusting. I mean the guy even wrote a book “if I did it”, everyone knows this man is as guilty as the day is long. Absolutely disgusting. And the only reason he can afford to live a decent life is because of his NFL Pension. Some Lawyer should find a way to give that to the Brown and Pearlman families.

  26. In todays extreme political climate I’m surprised there isn’t a boycott on Hertz car rental for what O.J. did 30 years ago.

Other than the fact that two witnesses saw him driving recklessly back towards his house in the White Bronco, maybe….. One woman almost got hit by him..

Too bad he is to dumb to understand what he has done….so very, very sad.

Not dumb…. He is a sociopath.

When the prosecutors said “there is a mountain of evidence, they weren’t boasting. The evidence of guilt was overwhelming. Unfortunately, all of the ancillary nonsense that was brought into the trial resulted in an acquittal.
    ————————————————–
The prosecution was inept. They got goaded into making mistakes. And the term “Dream Team” to describe OJ’s legal team is laughable. Cochrane knew exactly what buttons to push. F. Lee Bailey was a drunk. All Shapiro ever did was make plea deals for his clients.

  30. Don’t stop trying to find those real killers, Juice.

Maybe if you asked them really nicely to turn themselves in…

  31. I have no problem with O.J. Simpson. He was a college star, and NFL HOFer. He was accused of a horrendous crime, but he was found innocent in a jury trial. I’ve lived in America my entire life. We’ve always recognized that our court system isn’t 100%, but we always said it’s the best system in the world, and we shrug our shoulders and move on. It’s hard to believe a man I’ve watched on TV for 40 years or so could kill somebody. Our legal system says he didn’t do it, so I’m fine with that. I wasn’t there, so I don’t know who did it. None of us were there. The fact that nobody is trying to change our legal system tells me OJ didn’t do it. Why else would all these intelligent Americans put up with a broken legal system? We’re not stupid. This is our system. We’re the people on the jury. We vote for judges. We, we, we. We found O.J. innocent. Look in the mirror. Pat yourself on the back. It’s you, not them.

  32. A million bucks’ worth of player; a dirty penny’s worth of human being.

  33. He was found innocent in the court of law. Civil cases are much different so to say he killed two people could be consider slander.
    ——————————————-
Well I’m slandering then….he can be found innocent and still be the killer. There’s many guys who either were convicted and didn’t do the crime or the other way around. OJ got off due to poor police work and a great lawyer in Cochran. The FACT that no one else was even talked of after this case pretty much answers who did it

  34. Simpson is a sad individual. He had everything he could have ever wanted, but it wasn’t enough.
I think we all know he got away with murder, and we all have to accept that. But his judgement day will come as will all of ours, and then he’ll understand that he did not get away with anything.

  35. We vote for judges. We, we, we. We found O.J. innocent.

    — ———

He was found “not guilty”, Not “Innocent”! Difference!

  36. It was over the minute they moved the trial from Santa Monica to downtown L.A.

  37. We vote for judges. We, we, we. We found O.J. innocent.
    —————————————————————————-
    1) who’s this “we”? I sure wasn’t on the jury and i didn’t vote not guilty. The ones on the jury voted that. “They” said he wasn’t guilty. Not “we”

  38. Most people did NOT watch the trial. If they say they did they are LYING. Most people work 9 to 5. I worked 2nd shift during the trial, so I got to watch most of the trail and then after work watch the recap on E!. Most nights E! would recap the trial and tell the EXACT OPPOSITE of what happened that day. The prosecutors were buffoons and the LAPD bungled the investigation and contaminated the crime scene. The jury got to see evidence that the tv viewers didn’t and vice versa. I am not saying O.J is innocent; but he had no motive. He was banging broads much hotter than Nicole.

  39. He was found innocent in the court of law. Civil cases are much different so to say he killed two people could be consider slander.
    —–
That wasn’t a court of law, it was a joke. A disgusting, shameless black man convinced and nearly all black jury that it was racist setup by the evil whites to take OJ down. The prosecutor was too dumb to realize the jury would believe it and here we are.

  40. 41st ??? Am I the only man remaining that watched him play, at Southern Cal and then on to the Pros?

Suuure he’s 41st, just like Joe DiMaggio is 47th on the baseball list, and Hank Aaron is 35th.

*Perhaps* you can find five players to place ahead of O.J. on that list; no fetching way are you finding ten. No way-

Yes way. This is easy. Took me about 30 seconds:

    Brady
    Manning
    Montana
    Jim Brown
    Barry Sanders
    Jerry Rice
    Aaron Rodgers
    Drew Brees
    Brett Favre
    John Unitas

If I thought a little longer could probably come up with 10 more – no problem
