Dysfunction notwithstanding, Michael Thomas is favored to stay with the Saints

The relationship between the Saints and receiver Michael Thomas has deteriorated in recent days, to the point where a trade seems inevitable.

Not so says, says the PointsBet sports book.

The folks at PointsBet have the Saints as a -650 favorite to be the team for which Thomas takes his next snap.

The teams in plus territory are the Dolphins at +450, the Ravens at +600, the Colts at +1200, the Chiefs at +1200, the Packers at +1500, and the Jaguars at +1500.

I’m still intrigued by the possibility of a trade to Jacksonville, where Thomas would be reunited with his college coach, Urban Meyer. For now, thought, PointsBet doesn’t see that happening.

Thomas delayed getting surgery on the ankle he injured in Week One of the 2020 season. Recently, Jeff Duncan of Nola.com reported that Thomas ignored calls from coaches and trainers for three months. Thomas has apparently accused the team of trying to damage his reputation.

  1. Those wondering why the Saints would try to damage the reputation of one of their best players have clearly never met Sean Payton.

  2. They totally missed on taking Brown and gotta try to keep pace with Tampa’s dysfunction somehow.

  3. It’s purely economics and not desire that keeps him with the saints this year. Bench him or practice squad to prevent game sabatoge or risk injury to diminish 2022 trade value if necessary.

  4. Not sure what the asking price is but Ravens are not interested in this guy – certainly not now with the injury uncertainty

I would guess the feeling is mutual. You got a guy under center with a 68 QBR in the playoffs who has more Covid diagnosis than TD passes.

  6. I’m sure Thomas and Parker would love to be teammates.

The funny thing is since their exchange, Thomas has been pedestrian at best.

  7. Does he have any kind of no trade or limited trade clause in his contract? No one seems to be adressing that, which could be critical.
The Saints left themselves in salary-cap he11 by kicking Breeze’s contract down the road several times. No way they can manage another 20 million plus dead-cap hit.

  8. He’s not going to the Dolphins. We’re stacked at WR. Now, if he could rush the passer …

  9. jimmy graham, kenny stills and brandon cooks all tested sean peyton…how did their careers pan out once they left left the saints….

  10. Do you even know what dead cap is? Or do you ignore it just because of the nicely fitting narratives?

  11. I can promise you the Packers are not going to get involved.

The Pack is going to have a hard enough time figuring out whether to keep 6 or 7 WRs on the roster. So much talent
