Joe Burrow won’t play in second Bengals preseason game

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow won’t get a taste of game action this week.

Burrow sat out the team’s preseason opener against Tampa on Saturday and Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said on Monday that he will sit out this Friday’s game against Washington as well.

Taylor said last week that he was not ruling out the possibility of Burrow playing in the preseason as he makes his return from last year’s torn ACL. Burrow has expressed a desire to see some live action ahead of Week 1 of the regular season, so we’ll see if the Bengals play a different tune for their August 29 game against the Dolphins.

No other Bengals have been ruled out for this week at this point, but there weren’t any other situations of great interest on the roster.

  1. The Bengals have never had a QB as good as Burrow. I’ve waited this long. I can wait a few more weeks. I’m in no hurry to get him on the field. He should be nothing less than 100% before he gets back out there. No need to push it. The Bengals can compete for the super bowl now.

  2. It’s a shame Burrow landed in Cincinnati to start his NFL career. They’re going to do to him what the Colts did to Andrew Luck.

  3. Good! Introducing him to Chase Young this early in his rehab would be a recipe for disaster.

  4. Burrow has a long way to go before you can say he’s better than Ken Anderson or Boomer.

And Dalton, one of only 5 QBs in history to take their team to the playoffs in each of their first 5 seasons.

  6. I think last year proved pre-season is meaningless for the established starters. Hopefully 1 day the NFL will get rid of it

It’s about starters. It’s about the back ups & special teamers

It’s a shame people like you watch Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith and think you know what you’re talking about. Four of the past five DECADES the Bengals have had a pretty good QB. Ken Anderson in the 70s and 80s. Boomer in the 80s and 90s. Palmer in the 2000s and Dalton in the 10s. Go ask the Bears how long it’s been since they’ve had a franchise QB. Also how many other teams have gone to the playoffs half of the last decade?

  9. The Bengals are not making Joe Burrow the next Andrew Luck. They are making him the next Greg Cook!

  10. To the guy who said Dalton “got there five times and don’t win any”, how many times has Burrow got there? That’s the point….until Burrow actually delivers on the potential, there’s no legitimate way to say that the Bengals have never had a web as good as him like the original poster said. He definitely has talent….can he realize ithat talent is another question..

If the Bengals can get to the AFC Championship game by year 3, like the Colts did with Andrew Luck, I’ll be happy. The Bengals have a much, much better coach than the Colts did.

  12. Burrow has only proven one thing, he can get seriously hurt and miss a lot of time. No one knows if he will be injury prone of if this was a fluke. Ball is in the Gods of footballs court now

  13. It would be just like the Bengals to ruin a young Joe Montana that is Joe Burrow. Being drafted #1 overall often means you go to a dysfunctional organization which can ruin a potentially great QB.

He’s already met chase young but regardless yeah Bengals can sit him and then put him on a pitch count at the beginning of the season- 5 passes game one 10 passes game two etc. Let’s get this line and running game going first and let him ease in
