Dion Dawkins on having COVID: There were moments where I didn’t know if I would make this

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said recently that left tackle Dion Dawkins is “not close to where he needs to be” after being activated from the COVID-19 list and Dawkins shared some his experience with the virus during a Tuesday press conference.

Dawkins was hospitalized for several days and described the physical and mental toll that he went through after contracting COVID-19, calling it a reminder that “life can be over before you know it.”

“I didn’t know that my mind could get to the low it could get to,” Dawkins said, via Jon Scott of Spectrum News. “I was extremely emotional. . . . I don’t want to scare anybody, but there were moments where I was like ‘I don’t know if I’m going to make this.’ I was down bad. I could barely move and I was just hurting.”

McDermott said that he hoped Dawkins’ situation would provide “teachable moments” and “resonates with the people it needs to resonate with.” Dawkins’ retelling of his experience will likely help the chances of that happening.

  1. Get vaccinated! How many more stories like this do we have to hear?

  2. The human species is an endangered species & its due to this level of arrogance. Get the vaccine folks.

  3. Pfft, how does that compare to the knowledge and wisdom that’s brought to the team by Dr Cole Beasley…

  4. Dear comment section: although it was not mentioned in the PFT article, Dion is vaxxed. He’s not an anti-vax moron, he’s just unlucky because he caught Covid during the 2 week window before his antibodies kicked in. Carry on.

Damn. That’s weird bc Dawkins was vaccinated.

    ===============

Not really. He contracted the disease during the two-week post window.

  6. If he had not been vaccinated his situation would have been a lot worse. This virus does not care about your political or religious beliefs. If you are not vaccinated it will kill you. Or someone close to you that you love.

  7. Esp n article says he was fully vaccinated, wonder how this is sitting with NFL players and media members who were thinking once vaccinated everything is back to normal, cant catch it, spread it or end up in the icu. Imagine if this was a unvaxxed player, this would be all over the msm, tv, print and every other outlet imaginable, but since he was vaxxed it will be swept under the rug.

Now go back and read the comment from 2:21 pm. Does that help?

  9. People would rather THAT than a tiny little prick in the arm. I hope the unvaccinated have to deal with the medical bills. That’ll get them to get the shot. Or it’ll make these idiots poorer and hospitals richer. Either way, vaccinated people win.

  10. It was obvious reading the article that he is vaccinated or they would have slammed him. The Vaccine doesn’t work even after the 2 week period.

Ask Mike Mayock. Better yet do some research. Phizer was 42% effective in July. I don’t want to hear anything about less symptoms or 2 week waiting periods.

  11. Sigh – how many times to we have to hear about the 42% effectiveness? If you follow your own advice and do the research you will discover that is the infectious rate for ONE dose of the vaccine. The same studies with two doses show a significant higher efficacy rate and even higher rate against hospitalizations.

As much as you don’t want to hear about less symptoms or 2 week waiting periods the rest of the masses don’t want to contrived fiction about the efficacy of the vaccine.

  12. @nutmg1 – where did you get your 42% # from? Sources, or it’s just misinformation you’re irresponsibly spreading.
Anyway, some studies have said the vaccine efficacy diminishes over time, but that is just talking about the rate of infection; the vaccine still keeps you from getting hospitalized and/or dying. Just look at the current Covid deaths – 98+% are unvaccinated. Texas just ordered 5 freezers to store bodies in and Florida will need to do the same soon. Until the unvaxxed do their civic duty Covid is here to stay and thousands more will die. Wake up.

Well that’s just absurd. There’s very little evidence to suggest the media coverage for Dawkins is\will be any less than somebody like Lamar Jackson (for example).

The irony is what happened to Dawkins is still an indictment on unvaccinated players. If anything the media will be trumpeting it to try to explain to the nim wits what can happen until you are fully vaccinated.
