Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis out five days after COVID-19 close contact

Cole Beasley‘s staunch refusal to get vaccinated is costing him, and the team.

Beasley and fellow Bills receiver Gabriel Davis will both miss five days because they had close contacts with a member of the Bills’ training staff who tested positive for COVID-19, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Although both Beasley and Davis tested negative for COVID-19, unvaccinated players who have close contact with someone who tests positive have to isolate from the team for five days. If Beasley and Davis were vaccinated, they would be allowed to keep practicing as long as they tested negative.

Beasley has been perhaps the most strident of all the NFL players who have refused to get vaccinated, saying repeatedly that he’s not willing to get the safe, effective vaccine. Now the Bills will have to practice for a week without their receiving corps at full strength.

  1. The irony is that they were around a VACCINATED person, that caught covid…hahah…wake me up when any of this makes sense.

  2. You failed to mention that the person they were in close contact with is a person that is fully vaxed. the irony.

  3. I can see “working with” someone like Kirk Cousins because he is an integral part of the team. The viking are going nowhere without him. But marginal players cannot be allowed to jeopardize the future success of the team, especially a super bowl contender like the Bills. Management has to decide whether the potential contributions of these players outweighs the potential harm they can do by not getting the vaccination. I think the answer to this question for marginal players is pretty clear.

  4. I dont think it matters all that much, this is the deepest receiving group in the league.

  5. Wonder how long it will be before the “it’s a conspiracy against Beasley” takes are gonna start rolling in?

  6. Time to start cutting the non-vaxxers and let them bring their conspiracy garbage elsewhere.

  7. Was the Bills training staff member who tested positive vaxxed? Most important question left unasked.

  8. Nobody’s getting cut solely for this reason,
But will definitely be a tie breaker for fringe players.

  9. Curious to see how Beasley will respond to being out under these circumstances. He’s got the right to refuse the vaccine, but needs to understand that that decision comes with potential consequences. If he complains, his credibility is shot. It would be like deciding not to vote, then complaining about who gets elected.

Great. First we had a bunch of people that don’t know how vaccines work. Now we have just as many people that don’t understand how the word “irony” works. Unreal.

  12. HAHAHAHAHA what an absolute joke.
He gets it from a vaccinated coach but because he’s NOT vaccinated he has to sit out. Insane. It makes…… zero sense.

  13. Why does it matter if the person that was positive was also vaxxed? You do realize that the vaccinations are 100% effective? That person has done his best to try and mitigate this damn virus.

Beasley is a dope. He’s at a higher risk at getting the virus being unvaxxed and thus harming his team greatly. Imagine if they didn’t’ catch on to this faster and he was around Josh Allen…another poster boy for stupid non-vaxxed players.

  14. “Breakthrough” cases are a media creation. A positive case is a positive case, and virus carriers can and will spread it to others, vaccinated or not. It’s okay to acknowledge that the vaccines only soften symptoms and have no real impact on the spread of the virus. This demonization of unvaccinated, by the President no less, only divides us.

  17. So a fully vaxxed coach who tested positive for covid was in contact with an unvaxxed player who tested negative and the player who tested negative has to sit for 5 days? I see the logic.

  18. It would be so much safer and easier to get vaccinated. It would protect others and himself.

This is the worst take I’ve seen on this website that is practically dedicated to bad takes.

  20. If they want to strong arm players in to getting the vaccine, it’s the NFL’s right to do that, but there is no logic behind the different rules for vaccinated vs unvaccinated players

  21. It’s good to see the anti-vax nutjobs out in full force today. What – do y’all have a bat-signal that shines any time you need to spew your anti-vax nonsense?

It doesn’t matter where or how they contracted Covid – the point is they are not vaccinated and hurting their team. Now I know y’all don’t understand metaphors, but a team is like a society – when one person acts reckless it puts the whole society at risk. Get vaxxed people. Let’s get Covid under control so we can have our lives back.

  22. Vaccines are designed to generate an immune response that will protect the vaccinated individual during future exposures to the disease. Individual immune systems, however, are different enough that in some cases, a person’s immune system will not generate an adequate response. As a result, he or she will not be effectively protected after immunization.

  23. You failed to mention that the person they were in close contact with is a person that is fully vaxed. the irony.

  24. Beasley is a top 100 player. I would want him vaccinated to prevent severe symptoms if he got Covid and to prevent him from losing time on the field. I’m vaccinated and my wife is not. My wife will get vaccinated now that the vaccine is FDA approved. I thought of waiting til the vaccine was FDA approved also, but I’m not a NFL athlete. The vaccine isn’t perfect (side effects like most medications) but the technology has been researched for years.

  25. So tell.me this if u can still get the covid when ur vaccinated then why shouldn’t the vaccinated also have to take test daily. I know when I get the flu shot I don’t end up getting the flu numerous times that year……… but hey the fda said it’s OK but that’s because there paid by stinky joe

  26. Wow, Cole gets a whole week off from work! Maybe he can jet-off to the Caribbean.

Oh, wait. Not vacced. He’d probably get duct-taped to his seat for refusing to wear a mask…

  27. The only people worried about whether or not a person is vaccinated, are those that are vaccinated. Misery loves company…

  28. I took the jab in good faith but I won’t believe either side of the matter if I can’t hear the back ground chatter of all involved with the vaccine … full transparency. , other wise it’s a blind choice you have to make by what information THEY want out there.

  30. Bills have a chance to do something special this year.
Hopefully they have all available players to do it.

  31. Couch epidemiologists and virologists are at it again. Just because a vaccinated person tested positive for Covid, it does not mean it does not work. It sure does. Who is dying now? The unvaccinated, that’s who. It is sad but the politicizing of a health matter has caused a lot of people to perish. If I were the Bills, now that Pfizer’s vaccine is fully approved by the FDA, I would tell Mr. Beasly and the rest of the unvaccinated cult to get with the program or pack their bags. Enough is enough.

That’s because those of us that have done everything right, including getting vaccinated, are still having to wear masks, still seeing vacation plans ruined, still seeing businesses they own or frequent restricted, and all manner of other inconveniences because of those who won’t take the jab.
Getting a shot won’t eradicate or prevent the transmission of COVID, but if everyone were vaccinated deaths would be rare and it would be little more than an inconvenient and mild cold or flu bug. Then we could all get back to a relatively normal life.
You’re darned right the vaccinated are the ones worried about it. We’re the ones needlessly still suffering because too many stubborn, tinfoil hat-wearing people with self-endowed medical degrees from Facebook State University won’t get a shot.

Yes, because it’s the UNvaccinated who are spreading it. It’s mostly them in the hospitals. If a person chooses not to get the shots, that is their personal decision. However, they should keep their distance and mask up to protect others from them, simply because it’s the right thing to do.

  36. Money talks…The NFL should just stop messing around and mandate the vaccine already! Get the vaccine or get cut. Period. Full stop. No-one wants to lose millions of dollars. And I mean no-one. Enough with trying to educate and playing nice. Get the vaccine, show the proof and welcome to the privilege of playing in the NFL. Refuse the vaccine and find yourself on the street. It’s not that hard. Just do it! It does not “erase your DNA”. Bill Gates is not trying to control you. The government is not injecting you a micro-chip. Take the jab and save lives. Be a hero!!!!

    —————————
You can start by not getting your medical information from right wing talk shows and Facebook. It’s true that the Delta variant has reduced the effectiveness of the vaccine, but it still is effective and still very effective in reducing the seriousness of the illness. Almost all serious hospitalizations are among unvaccinated people. Unvaccinated people are far more likely to get it, spread it and die from it.

  43. Amazing how people still believe that the Vax is the safe way to go. The Vaccinated are spreading Covid and also dying from Covid. Wearing a mask does nothing but restrict Oxygen and breath in germs & carbon.
I am not against the Vaccine but it is not safe at this point and we dont know the long term effects. There are alot of short term effects that are killing people amongst other issues.
If you are afraid of catching Covid then take the year off from Football or Take the Vax. Cant punish those against taking something that has not been properly tested and is willing to get tested for Covid. If negative test comes back they practice/play. that simple. This has gotten to political and has ruined all sports, concerts, restaurants etc etc.

    ________

There is more to it. For vaccinated people who indeed can catch the virus, the period of time where they are contagious is shorter. The reason being that their antibodies will get rid of the virus way faster than the natural defense of unvaccinated people. This is why vaccinated people don’t get sick or die.
So the conclusion is clear in the sense that the vaccine protects yourself and others.

The anti-vaxxers are disgusting with their short sightedness, belliegerence and willingness to be duped and lied to by an extreme right wing movement.

  48. FDA approval is meaningless because it came under political and economic pressure. The FDA takes 5-10 years to approve a drug and it has to go through rigorous long term safety studies. They approved this under tons of shortcuts for the sole purpose of getting it approved to encourage mandates. That’s all. So the approval is a joke and will make anti-vaxxers even more resistant that they don’t trust the FDA.

  49. How dare vaccinated people go out and give this virus to the unvaccinated…. My brain has to work extra hard to write this, none of it makes sense…. But, if we’re blaming the unvaccinated, then we can blame the vaccinated too…. Cause we all spread it… Right?

  50. Here are the facts for all your anti-vaxx peeps:
1- Vaccine is only about 85% effective against preventing you from getting the virus, probably less against the delta which is more contagious.
2- The vaccine though it may not prevent you from getting the virus, it will prevent you from getting hospitalized or dying.
3- The more unvaxxed ppl are out there spreading the virus the more vaxxed ppl will get it, the more the more the virus will mutate to a point that it will become more lethal for unvaxxed ppl.

    Carry on.

  59. I learned something recently that I hadn’t realized about the unvaxed. they are proud to be unvaxed and likely even prouder of their defiance of anything that has to do with vaccination, mask wearing and other safety protocols.

I learned this while visiting my 91 year old mother in an outdoor group setting at the nursing home where she resides. told no less than twice what the protocols were in order to have a group family visit, my 3 unvaxed siblings wasted no time breaking them.

if they can’t follow a few rules in order to protect their own 91 year old mother, then the truth is they just don’t care about anyone else.

I just learned that a guy I once met, a friend of one of my family members, died after 32 days on a ventilator. He was otherwise healthy, in his early 30’s, except for his right-wing leanings, and unvaccinated status. He seemed like an okay kid. RIP, I guess.

  69. Over the last few months my wife and I have had numerous discussions about what could cause people to distrust this vaccine so much. There isn’t any logical or scientific explanation to it. Then I read the comments above and a light bulb went on. These anti-vaxxers are just dumb. Such a simple answer but so elusive. Can that many people be dumb? Of course, because the average IQ of this country is 100, so for every Hawkins, Dawkins and Tyson we have chickensalad43, KCfinfan and Cole Beasley.

  70. So the vaccinated guy gets covid (lol) and infects the unvaccinated guy but the unvaccinated guy pays the steeper price. Got it.

  71. I wasn’t aware until recently that you can obtain a Facebook medical degree for literally nothing.

  72. The only people worried about whether or not a person is vaccinated, are those that are vaccinated. Misery loves company…
    —–
Just to be clear, in the brain you have in your head, it makes sense that vaccinated people are miserable? People who don’t have to worry about such trivial things as dying from Covid are somehow worse off than you? Someone who does. This is something you thought made enough sense that you would post it for public consumption?

  73. When you become this much of a distraction to your team, you just might be cut when it comes time to trim the roster. Beasley could be headed in that direction.

  74. Yes you can catch Covid, or spread it if you’ve been vaccinated. Difference is if you have been you are less likely to catch it, less likely to spread it, less likely to need serious medical care, less likely to require hospitalization, less likely to be put on supplemental oxygen, less likely to need a ventilator.
    Less likely to die.
People do lots of things according to the odds. We choose a route home we think is quickest, we invest in what we think might give the best return, we might plan a future and then try to make it so. The odds in EVERY respect are that if you get vaccinated the odds for a negative outcome for you, people close to you, and your neighbors goes way down. So protect yourself and help protect those around you, and please get vaccinated. That is all.

  75. I hope Beasley doesn’t test positive. Hope the Bills win the SB. Or at least the AFC East.
    Just to be clear:
EVERYONE who died of Covid in 2020 was unvaccinated.

ALMOST EVERYONE who has died from Covid in 2021 was unvaccinated.

in 2021 -Of the 150+million people vaccinated, almost none have died of covid.
In 2021 – about 250-1000 unvaccinated people are dying each week since mid-July.

Which group do you want your family to be in?

  76. I would consider Beasley a bad teammate. It’s a team sport, Cole. This is like refusing to wear your helmet.

  77. So he got it from a vaxxed Coach. That’s at least 3 instances I’ve heard of vaxxed people spreading the virus like no one’s business and we’re just out here pretending like there’s nothing to see here.

  78. Gosh. Reading all of these comments, from both the vaccinated and unvaccinated is a bigger tragedy than the virus. How have we Americans become so intolerant of differing opinions. I’ll admit I am guilty of it too at times. Why are all of us so certain of our own righteousness. We all should feel ashamed of ourselves, the way we’ve been relating to others,so few of us are behaving the way we should.

I dont think it matters all that much, this is the deepest receiving group in the league.

The Denver QB room showed it doesn’t take much for one person to knock out an entire position group last year.

Can that many people be dumb? Of course, because the average IQ of this country is 100, so for every Hawkins, Dawkins and Tyson we have chickensalad43, KCfinfan and Cole Beasley.

    —-

Richard Dawkins is a known transphobe and said said disparaging remarks against women.

Neil Tyson is not an actual scientist.

Stephen HAWKING was a masterful scientist and physics guru. Not sure what that has to do with COVID though.

  86. The NFL has harsh rules that may force otherwise healthy unvaccinated players to sit out and the anti-vax freedom fighters focus upon how the contact was with a vaccinated guy rather than how the issue wouldn’t be an issue if Beasley was vaccinated. Don’t put yourself above the team Cole.

Repeating “safe and effective” doesn’t make it true.

    ————-

You’re right. Except that’s where actual science comes into play and confirms that a vaccine is indeed “safe and effective” for us dummies running around out here. Ya know… research by actual scientists?

    ————————————————————————————

First of all it’s not a drug but a vaccine that’s using technology that has been in development for over 20 years! The FDA also said that never has a vaccine had so many people to study from, over TWO Hundred million doses have safely been administered!
There were NO “short cuts “, your misinformation is absolutely appalling!!!

Some of us like facts and science. Some also believe Brady deflated footballs to appease their little small, jealous brains.

  90. Where’s the its not FDA approved crowd? Moving the goalposts im sure since they are out of excuses

    Did you graduate high school?

    __________________________________________

Actually, it’s “Did you graduate from high school?”

  92. Let’s give the anti vaxxers a quick math test that I’m sure they will fail.

    Which option is better rubes?

an option that gives you 0% coverage or an option that gives you 93% coverage? No this is not a trick question rubes.

  93. I’m not getting vaxxed because Joe Biden said he wouldn’t get any Vaccination Trump approved. And since it was Trump who got the vaccinations started and to the public so quickly, I’m sticking with what Biden told me. He also said he wouldn’t do anything different in Afghanistan…. And that’s proven to be true too. Cause the media said so. Stay in your lane sheep!

  94. Just because you’re against taking this vaccine doesn’t necessarily make you and anti-vaxxer out there promoting misinformation and picketing at the local pharmacy. Honestly if your afraid then take the vaccine. If your not, then at least do your part and mask up and practice social distancing. Approved boosters at 8 months? So we need 3 shots a year? For how long? Its a virus people. It will survive. They find viruses buried in the ice sheets of almost every continent. I’m 32 and have never gotten a yearly flu shot. The last one I got was when I was 18 and about to go to college. I’ll mask up for you and mine but I’m not taking 2+ shots a year to appease any of you. This is a fluid situation. Last year was Covid 19 and now it’s the delta variant. Next year it’ll be some other variant. Flu shots change yearly with different strains and I’m guessing a majority of the population doesn’t get flu shots. The problem is most people think of the vaccine as being bullet proof and they shed their masks and went out in public as soon as they could. Come to find out the vaxxed can catch and spread it as well. Turn off the news and go outside for a change. People aren’t falling dead on the sidewalks because of this. 600k people is A LOT but it still is a very small % of the population. Just breathe people. Think for yourself. Don’t let anyone on the left or right, cram whatever they are selling, down your throat. Do what YOU think is best, with the added morals of being respectful of others decisions.

  95. Haven’t scanned all of the comments, but being vaccinated does not mean that you are 100% protected against being infected, but if you are it reduces the viral load which both decreases the likelihood of transmitting the virus AND of developing severe disease. Unvaccinated individuals are potentially walking incubators of the virus with a greater change of passing on the infection AND getting severe disease. It is irresponsible as well as idiotic to refuse to get vaccinated…what would you do if you found out you infected someone who dies?

  96. The level stupidity is mystifying. The NFL haa policy and a process, it is a job requirement, like all of us have at some point in our careers, or lives. In order to attend school, ES/MS or HS, you have mandatory medical requirements, the same goes for college and the US military. Everyone complies for the greater good. NFL players love telling everyone how they are “grown a$$ed men”. The Covid vaccine is FDA approved like other vacines. Soooo, what’s the matter? It’s just a needle; take the shot (wussey boy).

  97. This whole thing has taught me that there are a lot of people that seem to enjoy living in fear.

  98. Should we mandate that people move away to new homes because they live the South East United States and are at high risk for hurricanes?
