Jaguars running back Travis Etienne will mis his entire rookie season.

The Jaguars put Etienne on injured reserve today, which means he will not play at all in 2021. The move had been expected after tests today revealed he suffered a serious foot injury in last night’s preseason game.

The Jaguars surprised everyone by taking Etienne with the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. They really didn’t need a running back, and Urban Meyer said Etienne may play wide receiver instead, but now he won’t play at all as a rookie.

Jacksonville will now hope Etienne can get healthy and become a contributor in Year 2.

  1. Not a Jags fan, but the just sucks for the player. Hope he gets better and can get on the field next year.

  2. Everyone knew he was made of glass… Jags still got Dare Ogunbowale, they will be fine.

  3. With the Jags offensive line, I wonder how long before they’ll be saying the same thing about Trevor Lawrence. Joe Burrow found out what it’s like to play behind a bad offensive line.

  4. Man that same O Line is going to get Lawrence injured. Hopefully Minshew starts until they can address the line situation.

  5. NFL Steve Spurrier > NFL Urban Meyer. Jags fans are in for 2 or 3 really sad years. They need OL, DE, LB, DL, CB… and they draft a RB in the first round. The FIRST round. What a joke Meyer is. He is going to wreck their shiny new QB.

  6. His pick needed to be an offensive lineman. They had a decent RB(s).
Their OL looks rancid & TL is going to have a long year.

  7. Worst pick of the first round.

    Because……

James Robinson was already a home run.

  8. It’s rough on Travis. He really showed improvement his senior season, so I know he is a hard worker. He has his whole career ahead of him, so I hope he stays positive. As far as the Jaguars go, it’s a QB league, and the teams with the best QB’s win. The Jags drafted a generational talent at QB, so the winning will come, and it will come big. It usually doesn’t happen the first year, but they could win the super bowl next year or the year after. Get well soon Travis.

  9. Worst possible news for Jags. Tough break. But in all honesty, Jags should have drafted an Offensive lineman with that 2nd first round pick because their offensive line is garbage as it is now.

  10. Hopefully they play minshew behind that line?! Wow empathy runs rampant in Jacksonville

  11. “The Jags drafted a generational talent at QB,…they could win the super bowl next year or the year after.”

Harry Potter and Peter Pan 100% agree with you !!! Sheesh.

Things are looking up but even a wildcard “next year ot the year after” is a reach.

  12. Poor guy. I wish him the best and hope he recovers fully. It’s easy to doubt the pick now, but if he produced he would’ve helped take pressure off of Lawrence and help the o-line as well. Now they are in big trouble and need to make a move or two.
Welcome to the NFL Mr. Meyer – the 5 star recruits aren’t waiting in the wings anymore. It’s scrap heap/sloppy seconds time.

  13. Lisfranc injuries have been Career Killers. That’s a tough one to come back from.
I wish the kid my best.

  14. Really nothing personal against the player or anything to do w his injury but that was the worst pick in the whole first round. He should not have been there to get injured in the first place.

  15. Yeah, I just hate this… He’s such a dynamic player and I was really looking forward to watching him play. I hope he comes back strong.

  16. There were only two offensive lineman taken between the Jags selecting Etienne and their next selection OT Walker Little. Apparently the entire league didn’t think there was much there because both of those picks were within six selections of them taking Little.

  17. Urban has this team going in the wrong direction. Is it possible for the worst team to get worse?

  18. Everyone .. “the jags should have drafted oline in the first round instead of a rb”

Me.. “ok, name the lineman they should have drafted?”

    Everyone ..”*crickets*”

  19. This, folks is how NOT to build a team in the NFL. Your franchise QB at number one is running for his life already. The only position you had sewn up before the draft was running back. Offensive line was and still is a massive need.

“Oh look! We can draft his teammate from college. A running back!”

Urban and the Jags got cute. And now they got burned.

ANYONE not named AJ Cann, Jawaan Taylor, etc would be an improvement.
You got no answer because the question made you sound like a simpleton.

Everyone knew he was made of glass…

    —-

How was a RB who didn’t miss a game in 4 college seasons, known to be “made of glass”? Injuries happen, and can happen to anyone at anytime.

  22. Urban Meyer is casting a black cloud on that entire organization. He is totally unqualified to be an NFL HC

  23. Probably not the best value when he was picked but still a dynamic young player so everyone hates to see this

  24. Hopefully he can still be productive moving forward. Although I’m not exactly sure why they took him? I realize they were gonna put him all over the field but at 25 they could’ve taken an OL or a defender to better help their team. Seemed like they were actually fairly set at RB.

  25. Sucks, but if he return healthy then it should increase his future value. Less tread on the tires. On the downside, Lawrence is probably wetting his pants.

  26. After Lawrence, we took a RB at #25. A running back? Then in Round 2, we took a guy, Campbell, who can’t find the ball in the air, a bad quality for a DB followed by another 2nd rounder, an OL who hasn’t played in 2 years. Then there’s Tebow.

Meyer is over his head and GM Baalke is a stooge. They blew all the FA money on nobodies and then blew the draft.

Does that mean Joe Burrow should be in the Super Bowl this season? #getreal

  29. Yeah man. The Jags situation just looks more grim each day. From what I read since after the draft, Lawrence’s familiarity with Etienne was supposed to have been a bit of a factor in drafting him. Season just got q little harder for the rook if he can’t get familiar with someone else quick.

  30. Is the jaguars OL really that bad? Honest question. In any case, they passed in ALOT of talented OL when they took Travis Etienne. Idk how that makes any sense when you snagged James Robinson last year as an UDFA. 1000k and 10 total TDs. Best saftey, best DT, best center were still available when they took Etienne.

  31. Meh, another season of stink to get another high pick, perhaps a premium O-lineman. Can’t fix it all overnight. Hope the guy heals up right.
