Aaron Rodgers: We all know what’s at stake this year, “championship or disappointment”

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers acknowledged the importance of taking a win-now approach to the 2021 season, which appears likely to be the end of an era in Green Bay.

With the strong possibility that Rodgers is playing his last season as a Packer, he said he and his teammates are putting it all on the line this season.

“I think we all know what’s at stake,” Rodgers said. “I talked about that a little bit the other day about perspective and how important that perspective is to focus on this season and enjoy the most out of this season, because there are a lot of unknowns.”

Rodgers said it’s not just about his own situation, but also about several other Packers who are slated to become free agents next year, and the team’s salary cap: The Packers are currently slated to be dead last in the NFL in available cap space for 2022.

“They jumped through some hoops to get under the cap this year,” Rodgers said. “Obviously, the cap is expected to go back up next year but you never know. So we’re just going to enjoy this season. It’s Title Town. It’s championship or disappointment.”

  1. Then you better get used to disappointment because it ain’t happening, maybe never for you.

  2. Cap’s only going up between zero to $10m and could drop. And it won’t help Pack keep FAs & bring Matthews back because 31 other teams get it too. Y’all want paying but don’t seem to know how the system works: there’s a shared finite revenue but bigger names get overpaid millions by billionaires to help further screw fans because it’s a monopoly.

  3. For decades Green Bay has drafted and developed in order to stay competitive each and every year, and it has worked despite people criticizing the Packers for it. Green Bay is now $50 million over the cap next year. They put up with an offseason of hissy fits to end all hissy fits. They traded a draft pick for a washed up wide receiver just because Rodgers wanted a family reunion on the sidelines. And barely anyone made fun of the man bun he was rocking when he finally decided to grace Green Bay with his presence.

No more blaming the organization for your problems, Aaron. There is literally nothing else you could have been given. You fail to win a Superr Bowl this year and it’s 1000% on you.

  4. That’s a great goal, considering Rodgers’ compensation is a large part of the problem. If they don’t win the SuperBowl this year I’ll be as ready for Jordan Love as I ever will be. Why not?

  5. A lame duck QB who creates non-stop drama and problems is NOT winning a championship.

  6. Seeing that Rodgers kicked off the season disappointing the team and fans for whatever reason. Enjoy the season then.

  7. As a Packer fan, I just know in the pit of my stomach, this year isn’t gonna end well. Godspeed Warriors of Lambeau.

  8. Oh well, it appears that Brady has everybody’s number so get ready for another disappointment.

    Signed, All other NFL franchises

  9. The chief DIVA seeks to enlighten us.

The sooner he retires the better off the Packers will be. Capitulating to Rodgers has ensured several years of mediocrity for them when he departs.

  10. Can we just not hear from Rodgers anymore until the season starts and he can explain his teams loss and someones bad play that day or win and great play.his press time is getting old.just shut up and play.

  11. Whatever MVP Rodgers trade value was this off-season (3 first round picks and players?), that is the price Brian Gutekunst is paying for ONE YEAR of Aaron Rodgers. Insane gamble to not just rebuild around Love.

Rogers CRAVES ATTENTION….. HE won’t let that happen & when they choke or lose again it will NEVER be because of him…. Haven’t you figured that all out yet??!!

  13. Oh please with this team? Your GM did nothing to improve the team. Gave up a pro bowl center to make your salary bigger, let other players with experience go and your talking super bowl with a team of undrafteds and rookies.
Besides you kept King. He alone will gaurantee you probably arent even playoff bound

  14. Sadly, Aaron’s Packers are the first stop on Jameis Winston’s Own The NFL Resurrection Tour MVP Season.

  15. Thanks for being Brady like and taking less money to get some real talent around you. Next year several players who are actually pretty good will leave due to lack of money. Pack wont be able to use the tag on them because the tag money goes over the cap. Ya last year for a winning team thats for sure

  16. The team didn’t address immediate needs after both of their losses in the past two NFC championship games. No, they drafted for the ‘future.’
So close to title and yet did nothing to significantly better their chances by remedying their weaknesses. That’s not a mindset you’d find in a true ‘Title Town.’
And thus it’ll likely be disappointment, rather championship, again this year.

  17. Same thing EVERY year, for EVERY team!!! This is new for Rogers?

I’ll take apathy for 200 Alex, er Aaron.

  18. Considering the packers last two seasons ended in embarrassing disappointments. The outcome this year seems obvious. “We all know”, more failure and disappointment.

  19. Sorry Aaron but you will always be overshadowed and outplayed by the GOAT Brady.
But do not feel bad. So was Peyton Manning Dan Marino Drew Bress Patrick Mahomes and
    Little Ben

  20. They have to win the title, after all what else can you do for fun in Green Bay, Wisconsin?

  21. I’ll take “Diva’s Rule” for a thousand Alex….
    Congratulations Aaron you’ve found today’s DAILY DOUBLE…. & here’s your question:
Bare with me Aaron, there are a lot of references here…..This QB believes in nothing but himself & could care less about it, & he believes he’s better than Tom Brady even though almost EVERY statistic that matters out there contradicts this view point & & & & &
Would that be Drew Breese Alex?
No, I’m sorry Aaron, that would be you & ALWAYS WILL BE Aaron….

Places like Green Bay have genuine people with character and loyality. Not transient or sun worshipers.

Insightful comment, and I fully agree when you think of it that way.

  24. “We’ll take lose in the Championship Game for $200 Dollars, Alex… er I mean Aaron”….

  25. Packers have avoided disappointment seven times while I’ve been alive. I’m very grateful.

  26. Rodgers and the Packers have no answer for defenses of Tampa, Rams, and 49ers. So I don’t see how they win the NFC.

  27. Draft and development that packer fans seem to covet is a losing proposition. Only having hof qb’ s has masked the cheap ball side of the equation. He is right, next year the u know what hits the fan.

  28. The Packers are built to win NOW.
Next Years Salary Cap number is inconsequential.
There are several big contracts that will or can be terminated after this season with minimal dead cap penalty and leaving Gutey with substantial cap money to work with.
Rodgers is correct,… It’s all on the line this season. Next year will be the start of a rebuild. It will be Love’s team. Rodgers will be long gone.

  29. You should have ran it in for the touchdown.
    ==========

Lazard should have caught the game winner on 1st down.

  30. Every year there are 31 teams disappointed, although there are varying levels of disappointment depending upon expectations. There are high expectations in WI this year, as there should be. However, given the difficulty winning a SB, the odds are that cheesers will be one of the more disappointed fan bases come next January. And then they get to look forward to the era of Love.

Same thing EVERY year, for EVERY team

    ——————————–—— ——————————–——

    Not if you’re the Jets.

Then it’s disappointment or total disaster!

  32. Sure but what will Rodgers use as motivation this year after the packers caved to Rodgers?

  33. Rogers, go away, everyone knows how this train wreck is going to end. It’s not about your fans in G B. It’s about your ego and $$$. Just go away

  34. We’ll know more about the Packers after week one against the Saints.

Keep in mind the majority of the 53 players(including most of the starters) will not see one snap from scrimmage in the pre-season.

No championship this year and next year they will sign some of Domino’s delivery team to fill out the roster.

  35. It’s championship or disappointment for every team, every year.

    ———-

This is patently untrue for the Cleveland Browns, and I suspect a few other teams.

Uhmmmm, and you realize Ted has assembled a horrific packer defense once again?

    ******************************************
Uh, what? LOL. Ted hasn’t been GM for four years and he’s kind of dead now.

  38. I always enjoy how much these Aaron Rodgers’ articles trigger the haters into becoming blubbering idiots. 😉
It does my soul good, though I could do without the umpteenth Jeopardy joke.
They’re just not that funny anymore. As if they ever were.

Aaron Rodgers stating the obvious just points out that some players and their teams are always working towards exceptionalism, they possess a Championship mindset.
It’s the ideal every NFL team and their players should strive for. Every year.
Meanwhile, the Vikings are looking to just score this weekend.
    Different strokes…and all that. 🤣

  39. Well what do you haters expect him to say? Isn’t this the goal of every team every year?

  40. I think there’s only 3 teams that can honestly say this is the case- Chiefs, Packers, Bucs. I think Bills fans would consider making it to the Superbowl a success and the same with the Rams
