The Shaq LawsonBenardrick McKinney trade did not work out for either the Texans or the Dolphins.

The teams swapped linebackers, as well as a swap of late-round picks, on March 14. The Texans traded Lawson to the Jets on Sunday, getting a sixth-round choice in return.

The Dolphins cut McKinney on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

McKinney is coming off a 2020 season cut to four games due to shoulder surgery. The Texans made the inside linebacker a second-round choice in 2015.

In six seasons in Houston, McKinney started 77 games, totaled three 100-tackle seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2018.

  1. Told ya.

He wears cement cleats at this point in his career.

Miami is going to be in trouble on the oline and at lb.

  2. There was a lot of hope for this team this year! It’s fading fast! Tua is a better QB this year than he was last year no doubt! But our offensive line is a jigsaw puzzle of backups and potential, with no one able to get the best out of them. I see Miami as the third best team in the division this year and it’s not on Tua! It’s on our GM who is blowing all of our draft capital on players that can’t start or play to the ability of the position we drafted them and wasting money on linebackers when we need o-linemen in free agency. If Miamis offensive line doesn’t get it done this year, the Dolphins will be starting over again.

  3. Year one – Takes No Talent

Year three – You Better Have Talent

Miami is trending straight up. All systems go. About to unleash those receivers with the ultra accurate QB.

If you’re a Miami/Tua hater, it’s going to be a rough year for you. Almost as rough a season as the AFCE DBs are gonna have.

  4. Lol to clear for Watson? That’s your hope?!?! Good luck with that. He is not going to help a team win. Ever.

  5. Dolphins LB group is explosive as F.

McKinney didn’t fit, just like Lawson.

Sam Eguavon is intriguing as heck. That 4 sack performance last week was insane.

  6. Wow their front office is so good they get rid of players nearly as soon as they acquire him. They’re already antsy about their QB of the future.
