With a Ron Rivera reunion out, where will Cam Newton go?

The most obvious dot-connecting process in the aftermath of Tuesday’s news that the Patriots had cut Cam Newton led to Washington. WFT coach Ron Rivera quickly shot that down.

So where will Newton go? The folks at the PointsBet sportsbook have set the odds as to the next team for which Newton will take a snap.

The Cowboys and Washington (despite Rivera’s comments) are co-favorites at +550. Next come the Steelers and Colts at +600, following by the Ravens, Texans, and Dolphins at +800.

The Panthers are next at +1000, along with the Lions. The Cardinals, Vikings, and Jets come in at +1200, with the Titans, Bengals, and Seahawks rounding out the list at +1500.

The proposition isn’t his next team. It’s the next team for which he actually plays. For most of the options listed above, that will require an injury. Newton’s best move could be to wait, then, for an injury to happen. It would keep him from having to be a backup, and it would prevent any regret that would arise if, for example, he signs with one team and another team’s starter promptly gets injured.

There has been no immediate buzz regarding a team that would want to sign him quickly. Given that teams were otherwise occupied yesterday with cutting rosters and are busy today with associated moves, it’s no surprise. However, Newton was the starter for the Patriots only nine days ago. It’s hard to imagine him being and remaining unemployed for very long.

  1. Cam is a back up,at best. If he waits until a QB gets injured to join a team,it won’t help that team at all. Cam Newton struggles to get the offense down and struggles to read defenses against it. He needs to get with a team as soon as possible and back up this year.

  2. if your starter goes down, which would you rather have; a backup who has been with the team since at least the summer and knows the playbook, or cam newton who isnt showing the most at the qb position anymore?

  3. Say what you will about Kaepernick. I never saw him give up on a play in the Superbowl and act disinterested in football in general.

  4. I’m wondering if anyone will pick him up because of his disinterest in the Covid vaccine combined with him having issues with the bug? If a team does pick him up, Houston would seem like the obvious choice. Detroit won’t because Newton would challenge Goff for the starting role and they don’t want to put that pressure on Goff (who is looking like he’ll only spend one season in Detroit).

  5. Not a chance he goes to Arizona. The Cards saw him last year and although they lost that game, Cam was horrendous.

  6. This team (which is my favorite team for over 40 years) is going to be a complete
failure again this year. The only good side for me is I live in Massachusetts and not in Minnesota. But I can’t stand the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS.

Kaepernick hasn’t been interested in football for roughly 6 years. Hence why he’s crass towards owners, would only do workouts on “his terms”, and his crazy gf made incredibly racist remarks about the Ravens owner and Ray Lewis when the Ravens were interested several years ago.

  8. Without an injury to someone this year and a phone call to Newton, there’s an odds on chance he’s done in the league. No one wanted him last year and the Pats got him for next to no money. If they didn’t need him, I don’t think he would have been on an NFL roster in 2020.
