The Seahawks are looking at bringing in some additional depth at linebacker.

Per Field Yates of ESPN, Seattle has hosted a workout for Daren Bates and Kamal Martin.

Bates has been a special teams standout in his career, having entered the league as an undrafted free agent back in 2013. He’s been with Tennessee for the last four seasons, appearing in 13 games for the Titans last year. He’s also spent time with the Texans, Raiders, and Rams. Bates played 66 percent of Tennessee’s special teams snaps in 2020.

Martin was a Packers fifth-round pick out of Minnesota last year. He was in for 19 percent of Green Bay’s defensive snaps and 25 percent of the club’s special teams snaps. He finished his rookie season with a sack and three tackles for loss in 10 games.

Seattle currently has Bobby Wagner, Jordyn Brooks, and Cody Barton at linebacker on the active roster and Jon Rhattigan at the position on the practice squad.

  1. Yeah, you guys could have re-signed top 100 player K. J. Wright, but I guess this journeyman who’s bounced around with four other teams over the years will be a big “improvement.”

You might get away with pinching some pennies in another division, but not in the NFC West. Not too bright.

  2. Penny-pinching Mode was apparently hoping that KJ Wright will sign with them for peanuts. giving them a huge home town discount. No dice. Now they have to fill the roster with linebackers from the waiver list.

Maybe you are right about them wanting KJ back at a discount, however has nothing to do with this. When they lost Ben Burr-Kirven to a season-ending injury in the pre-season they lost one of their top special teams contributors. I don’t feel like KJ is the guy they want to fill that role and not sure he wants to be a strictly special teamer at this stage of his career.

  4. Unfortunately Kamal Martin has the knees of a 70 year old. Then again maybe he can seek medical advice from Pete.

  5. I read that as Kamala Harris to start. Yikes- Seahawks will do well if they have an amazingly low injury status this season. Otherwise, look out
