Aaron Rodgers plans to “enjoy this year for all it has to offer”

Only six weeks ago, even Aaron Rodgers wasn’t sure whether he would play in a 14th consecutive season-opening game for the Packers. Now, the star quarterback is unsure whether this will be his last season-opening game for the Packers.

Rodgers is focused only on the present, but concedes “it definitely does” feel different heading into this season.

“There is a lot of unknowns, so the right perspective is needed, I think, from all of us,” Rodgers said Wednesday, via Bill Huber of SI.com. “But I think we don’t feel pressure. I’m speaking personally, and I can’t speak for everybody. But the feel that I get with the energy in the locker room is not pressure. It’s focus. I think it’s the right perspective and the right type of focus. We know we have a talented team, we know what the expectations are.”

Rodgers’ uncertain future and the Packers’ salary-cap situation for 2022 could close this team’s window after this season. Thus, this could be the “Last Dance.” The only certainty for Rodgers and this group of Packers is they have this season to try to do something special.

“We’re going to enjoy this year for all that it has to offer, and each other,” Rodgers said, “and I think that’s the right perspective to have when you get in this situation.”

  1. Enjoy the loss Sunday for sure!

    That saints d is gonna exploit than replacement left tackle.

  2. Sounds like solid, level headed perspective to me. But watch him get criticized for it.

  3. He’ll be saying the same thing this time next year and still with the Packers after he gets his annual “look at me” off-season drama over and done with.

  4. I was thinking the other day about how many SuperB owls Rodgers would’ve won if he played for the Patriots and then the Bucs; after crunching the numbers with a sim I’m working on, I came up with 12 rings.

  5. What the salary cap issues will do is force the team to move on from high priced talent and give younger players opportunity. That will reveal the strength of the Packers’ draft and develop capability. The old gang may be broken up, but that is an evolutionary process. I’ll be watching this season to see how the young talent steps up.

  6. This is going to be a great year for Packer fans (did I mention the 13 time World Champion Green Bay Packers) we are going to enjoy all the haters and and negative story lines because come Sunday, February 13th, 2022, it will all be worth it as we change from 13 time World Champs to 14 time World Champion GREEN BAY PACKERS!

  7. Wish Rodgers would just shut up and play great.tired of hearing him talk.he must prove that age hasnt taken its toll on his talent by going out and winning games.

  8. The first week Brady has great game and he doesn’t, he is going to make cryptic comments about ‘Wanting to go out on high note’ so he can bring the attention to himself.

  9. I’d love a Bucs/Packers rematch in the NFC title game.

    The next day, the excuse/blame machine will be turned up to 11 as the Packers sift through the detritus to find out what went wrong—fingers pointing all around—and just how that dastardly old man Brady did it to us again.

  10. Wow, I noticed a lot of hate here on Rodgers. Yes, his passive aggressive demeanor can rub people the wrong way but he’s still a transcendent talent. As an observing football fan all that matter to me, at the end of the day, is what happens on the football field. I look forward to his performance this season. If this really is his “last dance,” all the more exciting.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I’m a Packer fan and an Aaron Rodgers fan but I just can’t agree with this. I think it’s close, though. I think if Brady had Rodgers’ arm talent, Brady would have 12 rings… if not more.
    I’ve always said Rodgers had more physical talent but Brady had more “killer instinct.” I always said Rodgers wants to win but Brady wants to destroy you. I still believe that but over the past couple years, I’ve learned a bit more.
    Brady’s focus, singlemindedness, determination and preparation are beyond anything we’ve ever seen. There is no off season with this guy. He’s like a machine and he demands the same from everyone around him. From first-day rookies to vested vets, he demands everything they have, every minute of every day, 365 days a year. And they seem to love him for it.
    There is no longer any doubt in my mind. Tom brady is the G.O.A.T.
    He will also enjoy making tee times in early January as usual
    ——————————-
    He might have trouble getting those tee times competing with all those Patriots players trying to do the same.
  13. Under Ron Wolf and Ted Thompson, and up to now with Gutey, the Packers management style was it was better to get rid of a player one year too soon than it was to get rid of him one year too late. That philosophy has worked pretty well for the team. But Aaron has thrown the monkey wrench into the works — when it’s his buddies, he is not happy with seeing them jettisoned. The result is the salary cap log jam the Packers must confront next season. It’s like, pay me now or pay me later, the piper has to be paid.
  14. As a Packers fan since 1961 let me make a prediction: Packers are not in the Super Bowl. They might now even make the playoffs.
    When a team has a collective arrogance about they’re destiny like this group has it almost always goes south.
    The first clue is the schedule. It’s damn tough.
    The second clue is every team in the division is better, even Detroit. 3-3 in the division is very possible.
    The third clue is injuries. The Packers have had a remarkable run of few injuries, with Bahktiari the exception. Where is this team if Rodgers is out for an extended time?
    I see 10 wins at the most and that might not be enough to get into the playoffs with 17 games.
  15. The “replacement left tackle” is a Pro Bowl guard. This notion that he’s going to be sacked 10X a game with Bakhtiari out.
    Big difference in playing tackle vs guard pro bowl or not. Tackles need to take care and protect the outside, has to keep the edge rusher from getting underneath on a go move or a bullrush. It is very different from playing guard man.
  17. The deck was stacked perfectly for the Packers last year. Their best opportunity to get back to the Super Bowl since 2010.
    Can’t shake the feeling that this will be a year of angst and consternation.
    ==========
    We’ve already heard that record. Its awful.
    (5-10-1 in 2013 and 2017 when he was injured.. lost both of the games he went out in as well)
    If you doubt Elgton Jenkins can fill in for Bak, I can only assume you’ve never seen him play.
