The Texans made the obvious official Friday: Deshaun Watson will not play for them Sunday.

Watson, in fact, will not play a down for the Texans this season as they wait for a trade offer to their liking. He did not practice all week, sitting out as a healthy scratch, and the team ruled him out for the opener against the Jaguars.

Texans coach David Culley told reporters earlier this week that Watson wouldn’t play.

The trade window for in-season deals closes Nov. 2.

Tyrod Taylor will start at quarterback for the Texans.

The Texans also ruled out defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. (thigh). They list defensive lineman Jonathan Greenard (illness) and linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis (thigh) as questionable.

Defensive linemen Maliek Collins (knee) and Whitney Mercilus (thigh) did not receive designations. They both fully practiced.

  1. What a train wreck. This is an awful situation, for both parties, I don’t bet too often, but I’d bet this goes poorly.

  2. To paraphrase Captain Renault, I’m shocked, shocked to find that Deshaun Watson isn’t playing this weekend.

  3. They should make him the guy that keeps that cord attached to the head coaches headset nice and untangled. Disregard this if they went wireless and I didn’t notice.

  4. Just the first game?? Bauer was ruled out for the season! If he was ready to play in week 2, is Goodell going to do anything? Double standard!

Race card will be the defense that will get him off with no charges

    And put Bauer in jail.

  6. NOTE – they don’t suspend him for the season. No matter what he did, all they care about is winning. They can’t do that without him. Hell he should almost ask for a raise. What can they say? They are nothing without him.

  7. What an uncomfortable situation this is for all parties involved, tough being a Texans fan these days

  8. So is he getting a full salary?
Is he eligible to play but they are just not playing him?

A year ago, Watson was one of the top 5 QBs in the NFL.

  9. The Texans are going to be god awful this year. JJ Swatt, DHOP and Duane Brown have to be thanking their lucky stars they got out of there before the hell hole Obrian created came crashing down.

  10. We all say O’Brien was a terrible coach and GM but man did this Texans team prove us wrong. Now I’m thinking O’Brien is like Marvin Lewis. He made the team and kept the team competitive but could never get over the hump. Problem is they gave him too much power which can be overwhelming. This shows the grass isn’t always greener.

  11. This sounds like a silent exemption. The NFL isnt going to exempt him, but he isnt going on the field either.

  12. Deshaun got railroaded by Obrien and the hookers lawyer. Obrien blew that good team up to try and keep up with the Chiefs. An aweful gamble.

I bet this lawyer is charged with extortion within a month, and Deshaun is traded within a day of that. It’ll be MIA, TEN, NE, DEN or an NFC team

  13. Watson could challenge this and he would win the challenge. But I’m guessing he doesn’t because he doesn’t want to play for them anyway.

Funny, the high king Goodell is usually quick to hit the suspend button. Makes you wonder if the NFL’s investigation isn’t finding the same things all the Watson is automatically guilty people think are real. Perhaps the NFL is finding that while Watson is perv for hiring hookers on Snapchat or whatever he is not what the Texans owner his lawyer buddy are making him out to be in the press. Also, zero movement from the police on the investigation either. Hmmm….

  14. Idiots keep trying to blame O’Brian for this mess. He’s several seasons gone and the disfunction is not just continuing but is growing. O’Brian at least got them into the playoffs regularly. He may have lost the turf battle against the current administration but the Texans are losing the war.
