Josh Allen: 16 games left, we’re not going to panic

The Bills came into the 2021 season with high expectations, but they stumbled out of the game.

They gave up 20 straight points after taking a 10-0 lead over the Steelers and wound up losing 23-16 on their home field. After months of buildup to the first game, that kind of letdown can lead to an overreaction that the Bills insist won’t come.

Safety Jordan Poyer said there would be “no panic” and quarterback Josh Allen sent the same message during his press conference.

“We’re not going to panic; 16 games left,” Allen said, via the Buffalo News. “We know what we need to do. We know we need to execute better. . . . This is one of the better teams we’re going to be play all year, to be honest. We have to find a way to make the adjustments and get the ball in the hands of the playmakers.”

The Bills will try to get on track in Miami next week and a failure to do so will lead to a bit more worry in Buffalo than Sunday’s loss is likely to create.

  1. Great comments. And I’d say to Josh if I could: no worries. The fans aren’t panicking either.

We know what we have this year. This game wasn’t what we all expected, but the Steelers deserve the credit. That’s the NFL.

Onto the next one. I see this game as kind of like the “hail Murray” last year. It will galvanize this team.

  2. Allen was definitely pumped to the max all day. Looked like he could throw the ball to Ohio.
He should settle down next week and get back to business.
    Steeler D played awesome today.

  3. This probably puts Sean McDermott on the hotseat. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Buffalo make a coaching change early due to the expectations. Frazier and Daboll on notice too.

Yeah, losing a single game against a tough opponent? Nobody survives that, right? Maybe they should just dissolve the whole team. They wouldn’t even need to worry about a new stadium or moving.

  5. The Bills offense looked bad in the AFCC game and they looked bad today. It’s going to be a long season especially with the division winner schedule.

So, your thing is “wishful thinking” posts?

    Got it.

  7. It’s only the first game of the season. Bills have 16 more. Let’s hope that we improve that pass rush on defense. Didn’t have it last year and the first 2 picks in the draft were supposedly going to help that. Didn’t see it today. Want to see Edmunds having more of a dominant role. If we can’t get to old Ben how the hell are we going to get to Tua, or Patrick?

  8. There is a reason that undefeated seasons are so rare. Everybody and every team has their good and bad days. Isn’t that why we play the games instead of handing out the trophies based on talent level?

  9. Steelers are a different team with a healthy Cam Heyward. Bills need to have their running backs rush the ball more than 15 times to keep good defenses honest. Seems to me they become predictable and pass 50+ times a game and 10 Josh rushes when they play good teams.

    Good one, Mort!

  11. They seem to be in a pre-season mode. Maybe more of the starters should have played in a pre-season….Even Aaron Rodgers looked bad and he did not play pre-season either.

  12. The Steelers defense played well. Their O-line can only improve. I can’t see it getting any worse.
