Report: Texans rejected Deshaun Watson offer of three first-round picks and three third-round picks before draft

The Texans want a lot for quarterback Deshaun Watson. The Texans reportedly could have had a lot for Watson.

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that, before the draft, the Texans could have had three first-round picks and three third-round picks for Watson. The Texans declined.

Glazer adds that four teams were interested in Watson, and that most of them have dropped out. Presumably, only the Dolphins remain for now — but they continue to balk at Houston’s demands.

Other teams that were linked to Watson include the Broncos, Panthers, and Eagles.

If no trade happens before November 2, more teams could get interested in the offseason. Currently, that’s the direction in which it seems to be headed.

  1. It’s hilarious to listen to all the Dolphins fans who vehemently deny their team wants Watson and has been in extensive discussions about what it would take to make it happen.

  2. Dolphins aren’t sold on Tua. Duh. And I don’t fault Houston for asking for so much. It’s cute how so many people think negotiating starts with asking for what what you can get instead of what you want to get. I do think it doesn’t matter much now though. My money is on a deteriorating Cam in Miami by week four.

  3. When the Texans end up having to trade him for two second round picks in the future in desperation, will there be any looking back to BEFORE the rumors came out, or even now, and wondering what they could have gotten if they weren’t greedy, incompetent idiots? Probably not

  4. Sad. That would have been a huge for the organization.
They act like their QB isn’t in serious legal trouble…

  5. If this true then the Texans organization is even worse than I thought it was. Can’t fix stupid. Not with the current ownership anyways.

Way too much for a QB.
    ANY QB.

    Particularly THIS QB.

  7. How long before the draft are we talking here? Nobody in their right mind would have offered that after all the allegations came out.

  8. The Texans are idiots. His price won’t be going up any time in the future. I thought O’Brien was gone, but maybe his aura remains and is forcing bad decisions.

  9. It’s a little more complicated. The Texans had just hired a new GM and coach and Watson was not returning calls plus his accusers were just getting started. Watson will have value in the future.

  10. Houston, I got news for you people in Hades want ice water to drink. With the baggage over Deshaun Watson’s head you may have to re-think things. If I were to trade for the guy I would have heavy considerations to lower the compensation or be able to outriht void it.

He’s not worth one 3rd round pick. He hasn’t won anything. He can’t read defenses.

    You nailed it!

  12. I thought that the Niners gave up a lot to get Trey Lance (though it may end up being worth it).
However, turning down 3 first round and 3 third round picks is nutso.

  13. This QB is very talented, but if he knows there were that many picks given up for him, he’d be nuts to want go to a depleted team. (JMHO) (He) should stay put in Houston, he already has money- now he should focus himself on getting a ring, it’s obviously expected.

  14. We have to be careful when we see these headlines. Unless someone puts their name on it, I am hesitant just to believe what is reported. But, if what is alleged is true, then the Texans are run by idiots. This year, they might be okay paying Watson 10 million. But, next year, his salary will skyrocket, which means they will lose more leverage.

  15. I understand that Watson’s value took a hit with the 22 lawsuits, but there is no denying the talent Watson brings.

He will turn 26 in September, led the league in passing with 4,823 yards last year, and already has thrown for more than 100 touchdowns in his first four seasons on a Texans team that has made a bad move after bad move.

The Eagles or the Fins are more equipped to make a run at Deshaun Watson than any other team out there. And if you put Deshaun Watson on the Philadelphia Eagles or the Miami Dolphins, they become a Super Bowl contender right away.”

So let stop the nonsense that Watson is not worthy of a big haul for the Texans because they need something good to happen for them after all of the lame brain moves that they have made in the front office. Look all we have is hearsay there is no proof that Watson really did anything that he is accused of doing to those women. And how about innocent until proven guilty!

  16. Good to see the Texans being smart about this… There is nothing more valuable in the nfl than a franchise QB… If the plethora of other legal woes that have plagued qbs in the past is any example, one decent week in his return will make everyone forget any troubles that may have surrounded him…
