Matthew Stafford‘s Rams debut couldn’t have gone much better.

The quarterback was an efficient 20-of-26 passing for 321 yards with three touchdowns. He finished with a nearly perfect 156.1 passer rating — the highest of any game in his career.

Now he’s been named the NFC’s offensive player of the week.

Stafford was on point from the start of Sunday’s victory over the Bears, delivering a 67-yard touchdown pass to receiver Van Jefferson on the Rams’ third offensive play. He then hit receiver Cooper Kupp with a 56-yard touchdown to start the second half.

It’s a small sample size, but Los Angeles’ newest quarterback certainly looked like he can help turn the Rams into Super Bowl contenders.

The Rams head to Indianapolis to face the Colts this week.

  1. Happy for Stafford, but Rams fans won’t be happy when he blows it for them in the post season.

He went to the post season three times with stacked talent and turned the ball over and blew ALL three playoff appearances.

    Good Luck, LoL!

  2. Long sufferring Lions fan here… I’m getting a little tired of the Stafford narrative. The guy was good in Detroit. He never had a running game, but always had good to great receivers and a decent O-line. The Rams will soon find out though that in the game’s most pivitol moment, Matt Stafford will throw an ill-timed interception, lead a three and out drive, fumble the ball, or take a dumb sack. In 2014, the Lions had a great defensea nd a potent offense. They were beating up on the Cowboys in the wild card game, then the refs picked up a PI call on Brandon Pettigrew. Detroit still had the chances, but Stafford caved. He does it all the time.

Good dude though and I wish him the best, but don’t expect a Superbowl, he won’t lead the Rams to one.

  3. This was just the first game. The Rams starters didn’t play in preseason. You guys ain’t seen nothing yet!

  4. Rams fan here. Should have went to Kyler Murray. I am happy for the win, happy for the accolades. We need to run the ball however. Let’s see how we finish the month of September.

  5. Long time Lions fan here….congrats Matthew. With this new team and defense around you, you won’t have the same results and you won’t cave. You’ll get to the playoffs and excell….

  6. Stafford seems like a good family man. I wish him all the best and glad he’s outta the division.

Good for you, Matt, you’ve earned a shot at a Superbowl.

  7. Congrats Matt! At least you won’t be suffering through watching Nagy’s horrific play calling and me shredding your defense twice a year anymore!

  8. Eddie Jackson should have been the offensive player of the week. He contributed more to the Rams offense than anyone
