Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has won plenty of awards since entering the NFL and he added another one to the trophy case on Wednesday.

Mahomes has been named the AFC offensive player of the week for the opening week of the 2021 season.

The Chiefs were down 15-3 to the Browns when Mahomes ran for a touchdown in the second quarter and he added three touchdown passes in the second half. Those scores helped the Chiefs outlast the AFC North side 33-29 to open the season with a 1-0 record.

Mahomes was 27-of-36 for 337 yards over the course of the contest.

It’s the sixth time that Mahomes has taken the weekly honors and the first time since Week Eight of last season. He will lead the Chiefs against the Ravens on Sunday night in Week Two.

  1. Derek Carr’s 4th quarter and overtime heroics should have garnered him this honor. Not hating on Mahomes but Carr deserved this, but they went with the big name, because as Goodell says, “it’s what the fans want”.

  2. 5 or so years ago I was getting a little depressed, Favre and Manning had retired and I wrongly assumed Brady would be gone soon as well. I thought all the greats were leaving and football would be in a sorry state. Now you look at the AFC alone and it’s full of incredible new QB’s.

  3. Derek Carr? The guy that had 2 TDs and an int in OT over Mahomes with 4 TDs and no INTs? Come on raider fan.

  4. That’s ridiculous. The most offensive player of the week was Rodgers, cant get any more offensive then what he did on the field

LMAO. Or maybe they saw the overtime interception he threw.

  6. Carr had a completion % of 60% and a qb rating of 89. Mahomes completed 75% of his passes and had a qb rating of 131… enough said.

  7. It was between him and Kyler Murray. I watched both games and I’d have gone with Kyler. He was magic.

Kyler Murray plays in the NFC

  9. Mahomes is the new Peyton Manning, he can do know wrong, the media loves him, without the late turnover, the Chiefs lose that game

Raiders/Ravens was like Keystone Cops playing football. Both teams looked horrible. Carr had the INT on the goal line, couldn’t push it in.. and couldn’t finish the game when he should have. It was an embarrassing game for both teams. Especially the Ravens who are the better team.

  11. Carr, no way. He missed a ton of passes with multiple do overs. Stafford, Wilson and Brady were better, to name a few.
