Matthew Stafford “grateful to step in the huddle” with Rams teammates

When the Rams and Lions agreed to a trade sending quarterback Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles, one common reaction was interest in seeing what Stafford would do with the strong supporting cast that would greet him in Los Angeles.

The results have been strong so far. The Rams are 3-0 after Stafford threw for 343 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday’s 34-24 victory over the Buccaneers. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians called Stafford a “special player” after the game, but the quarterback deflected praise to the players around him on the offense once the victory was in the books.

Stafford said the Rams have “so many talented guys” and noted the difficulty that defenses have covering the entire field, which didn’t always feel like the case when he was in Detroit.

“Yeah, I don’t want to rehash all the years I was there to be honest with you,” Stafford said in his postgame press conference. “But I just know that I feel grateful to step in the huddle with the guys that I have, both the guys up front that are playing at the level that they’re playing at right now and the guys around me in the skilled positions.  I’m enjoying every minute of it and trying to make the most of it and seeing where it will take us.”

There’s a lot of football to play, but the first three weeks of the season have done little to douse expectations that Stafford’s arrival will take the Rams somewhere good this season.

  1. Yeah us Detroit fans don’t want him to rehash it either but it’s quite the shame what Bob Quinn did to this team. He completely gutted it.

  2. Stafford or no Stafford the Rams were going to be successful one way or another. Lol

  3. Stafford doesn’t even want to think about Detroit. That’s pretty sad, or at least should be but I’m sure the Ford family don’t shed a tear over their record thanks to all the additional money the team has made them.

  4. Stafford shoulda left Detroit or asked for a trade asap. Why waste your life with owners that don’t give a crap whether you win or lose.

  5. He’s grateful? We’re grateful to have him. What a difference he has made in this teams offense from the last two years

  6. The Rams have playmakers on both sides of the ball. Having a quarterback who loves throwing deep balls is great. And so much for all the bs about Stafford not being able to beat teams with winning records.

  7. “And so much for all the bs about Stafford not being able to beat teams with winning records”

He’s done it before, it’s just that those teams didn’t finish the season with a winning record.

  8. As a Lion’s fan from the 60’s, im so happy for Matthew and his success with the Rams. Go’s to show what REAL ownership and REAL players around you can do for your career. And yes haters, he can win the BIG games and beat teams with winning records….
