When veteran cornerback Richard Sherman joined the Buccaneers this week, he claimed that other teams were interested. If they were, it didn’t drive up the price that Tampa Bay will pay.

Per a source with knowledge of the contract, Sherman will receive $1 million over the balance of the season, a prorated $1.2 million salary. Of that amount, $500,000 is guaranteed.

Sherman also can make up to $125,000 in per-game roster bonuses. With 14 games left, that’s $8,928.57 per game.

He’ll get the first piece on Sunday, when he’s active for the Bucs-Patriots game.

The Seahawks and 49ers reportedly were interested in Sherman, along with the Panthers. It’s unclear whether other teams offered more than the contract he accepted in Tampa Bay.

  1. “Over the hill. Injury prone. I have my doubts he sees the end of the season.”

Sherman doesn’t need to play every snap for that defense to be effective , he just needs to be on the outside in nickel situations and teach their young CBs a thing or two along the way .

  2. So all I need to do to make a million dollar salery is beat up my father-in-law?

  3. I’m surprised he made it through is first practice without pulling a hammy.

I’d put the over/under on 15 snaps before he comes up lame and has to leave the game.

  4. A certain LAD pitcher says “hey, isn’t an ongoing investigation supposed to keep ALL athletes off of the field until completion?”

  5. Man, what a team around Brady. He’ll get all the credit though, per usual. Think about all those forgotten greats he had in New England: Wilfork, Seymour, Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Bruschi, Asante Samuel, Revis, Dillon, Moss, Welker, Gronk, amazing o-lines, etc…and I’m leaving out countless names.

Btw, I’m not hating on Brady. I just hate when his fans downplay the talent he’s had.

  6. Let this be an example to young people – invade a home that is not yours, get rewarded with millions. What a disgusting person before the crime; even more disturbing afterwards. And now the Bucs have been exposed as a worthless franchise with no ethics.

  7. No one would really expect him to make anymore. He’s well past his prime at this point but he does offer solid technique and tackling. It’s just his athleticism has been sapped with age and injuries. It could be a good signing if he’s willing to tutor some of the younger DBs and if he stays healthy. He won’t be playing any special teams at his age so his roster spot is strictly for the boundary position unless he’s able and willing to play some safety. Could be a good signing or could be a LeSean McCoy signing.

  8. Aghalor will be burning him all day, then have the ball go just a hair long off his fingertips.

  9. Between him and DeShaun Watson this off-season, how are neither of them suspended? Hmm… Seems like preferential treatment to me.

  10. The Bucs are beginning to remind me of the Raiders back in the day on bringing in crusty and wily vets

No, Sherman also knows how to spell words like salary.

The next time Aghalor burns anyone it will be the 1st time

  13. C’mon guys – polarizing, flamboyant, at times even irritating. But an outstanding track record with a recent mistake. I can’t stand to see him lumped in with Watson, Bauer, etc..

  14. As far as right, wrong or being consistent in dealing with players that commit crimes or violate the personal conduct policy of the NFL, there are definitely no set rules. For if there were, Watson would be on the Commissioners Exempt List and Sherman would not be allowed to sign or play his legal issues have been fully addressed. NFL doesn’t seem to want to taint Watson any more than he is already, and the Buccaneers need help in their defensive backfield, so wink wink.

If Tyreek Hill is allowed to play then anybody should be allowed to play

  16. He’s taking peanuts for the opportunity to win a ring. That’s the same strategy used by at least half of the Minnesota Vikings’ roster.

He burns people all the time, he just one way or another doesn’t wind up catching the pass after he does.

  18. I’m surprised the Bucs have even that little cap room left after re-signing the SB winning team. Never really thought much of the aging star going to a contender mercenary thing – in any sport.
