Justin Fields will start his second game in a row for the Bears on Sunday.

The Bears announced on Saturday afternoon that Fields has been declared the starter.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy previously indicated that he wouldn’t decide on his starter until game time, but now the Bears are calling Fields the starter and saying Andy Dalton is doubtful with a knee injury.

Nick Foles will likely be the backup to Fields and Dalton will likely be inactive.

Fields struggled mightily in his first start last week, and the Bears’ offense managed just 47 yards in a loss to the Browns. Now the Bears will hope that Fields and the offense can put forth a better effort in a home game against the winless Lions.

  1. I guess they’re giving up on the season. Throwing the kid to the wolves/Zero line to protect him. Fire Nagy and Pace!!

  2. Several rookies on the Lions D probably thankful for this after Jimmy G, Rodgers then Lamar

  3. Pace should been fired after the Truby debacle. Regardless, gotta push all the chips in at this point. What’s he got left to lose?

  4. It takes a couple years to evaluate a big trade especially when lots of draft picks are part of the deal. When do you want to discuss the Khalil Mack trade? The Raiders are 3-0.

  5. Nagy hates this! He desperately wanted Dalton to start since fits his offense. Now he has to come up with a different gameplan to fit Justin Fields’ skillset(something he is unwilling to do).

  6. Justin Fields, Tua or Hurts, which is the absolute worst QB in the league? None can understand what’s going on or throw the ball. You want to beat any of them just keep them in the pocket and hold containment. Make them beat you with their arm. I know no one is allowed to say anything bad about them but be honest and tell me which one you’d bet it all on to win strictly using their arm?

Well, Josh Jacobs was only available for one of those games, The other first rounder, Damon Arnette, has only played 38 snaps this year. 3rd round WR Bryan Edwards is off to a good start, this year, after only 210 yards last year. It remains to be seen how Edward’s and Bears TE Cole Kmet pan out. Bears went to the playoffs twice with Mack with Top 5 defenses, while Raiders defensive average rank from 2018-2020 was 29th. Looks like the Bears won this trade.

  8. If they keep Fields in shotgun empty backfield like last week’s amazing plan, he will end up seriously injured…I am saying a prayer for the kid that “offensive genius” Matt Nagy & his staff are going to keep a tight end in to help, and try some max protect looks. Otherwise, Fields is doomed.

  9. Lions fans just went #2, he’ll set the rookie record for TDs or yards or some inexplicable thing. It never fails.

  10. Justin Fields deserves better. Thrown to the Wolves. They should at least go Zone Read or Pistol. What the heck happened to their offensive line?

How is this getting thumbs down? It’s the truth! In preseason he would tuck and run and was dubbed “dynamic”. For you people who know nothing about football, that means he can’t read an NFL defense. His first read is covered so he tuck and ran because he couldn’t get through his progression. I like the point made that you can’t criticize guys anymore. Not one “analyst” will call these guys out and point out their deficiencies and just flat out say “He’s not good enough to start in the NFL” Being big and fast doesn’t make you an NFL QB, you MUST win from the pocket, and he can’t.. Not right now anyway.

  12. Nagy probably thinks this will be an easier match up for Fields. It should be compared to Cleveland but I expect a tough close game. Probably lean to the Lions.
If things get out of hand I figure it will be the Lions taking it to the Bears. The Bears D isnt what it once was and the O just plain stinks. I dont see how the Bears win unless they have a superb day on D holding the Lions under 20, multiple TOs.

  13. Fields will learn the following: 1. how fast defensive linemen can get into the backfield. 2. How good linebackers are at blitzing. 3. How closely defensive backs can cover.

  14. Same old Lions would get torched by the rookie in his big breakout game. So let’s see what happens.

  15. Is there any difference between Adam Gase or Matt Nagy? The destroy qbs, make no adjustments and have no gameplan for the qb.

  16. If they run out the same game plan and once again show an inability to adjust to their talent, our so called “offensive guru” Nagy should be gone. It would be nice to one day have a functioning offense in Chicago or maybe even have a quarterback that goes for over 4,000 yards before 2030
