Tom Brady won’t have one of his favorite targets for his New England homecoming.

According to multiple reports, tight end Rob Gronkowski won’t travel with the Buccaneers and will be downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

Gronkowski was already listed as doubtful after he did not practice all week.

The tight end suffered the injury early in the third quarter of last week’s loss to the Rams when linebacker Terrell Lewis delivered a hard hit to Gronkowski’s side after he caught a short pass. Gronkowski’s X-rays came back negative and he was able to re-enter the game. But he was unable to get back on the field to prepare for his former team.

Gronkowski’s absence will be magnified given the opponent. But the Buccaneers still have O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate at tight end, two talented players capable of carrying the load. The club could also elevate Codey McElroy from its practice squad.

Thorugh three games in 2021, Gronkowski has 16 receptions for 184 yards with four touchdowns.

  1. Doesn’t matter. I am a Pats fan and already know the Pats will get smoked on Sunday night!

  2. Bucs are pretty depleted – especially in the secondary. An upset wouldn’t be shocking at all.

And then the hype-train cranks right up again for the Patriots. Yuck.

  3. I have a feeling Gronk doesn’t care to see anyone from NE because of the way he was basically tossed out… He had to lie about retirement to get out of his situation there, sad on many levels considering what he did to help the franchise.

  4. It was a similar hit by Earl Thomas a number of years back, that slowed Gronk for the rest of the year. I’ve always winced when he takes a shot near the back. I hope this is just precautionary.

  5. Sorry to see Gronk miss the game.

A fan favorite because he is a great talent and player that loves life.

No Patriots fan I know resented him retiring nor coming back to play with Brady.

Belichick is unique as as a head coach and GM that both let’s veterans walk to better opportunities while also bringing in veterans from other teams and extending their careers.

  6. They dont need him the bucs have Brady all they have to do is show up and and they will win the sb automatically right Pat’s haters🤔

  7. Angel.. or tb6 what ever want to call yourself..same person.. your so salty.. TB>BB.. Tom made billy !!!and it will be proved Again Sunday!!!

  8. This is actually really beneficial for the Bucs because OJ Howard can get more targets and back in the groove, and Gronk can rest.

  9. People can say what they will about Gronk. Belichick can think what he wants. Gronk is the GOAT of TE’s,and gave us many years of greatness,as did Brady. I wish he could come here one more time. You have to love and respect what these two men gave to our fan base.

  10. I’m surprised she’s not at least coming to watch the master make Brady look foolish.
FYI, Brady’s last pass in NE was a PICK SIX!

I’m not tb6 and I’m just saying what all the Pat’s haters say brady wins games alone he is the reason for the Pat’s success not the actual team . Sorry you all cant handle when it used against you.

  12. MRI shows Gronk has hairline rib fractures, so enough with the BS that he’s not tough. The Bucs have other TEs, plenty of WRs, so it makes sense to have him stay home and take it easy. Despite all the hype, this is just one game in a long season; no reason to treat it like all hands have to be on deck.
