Bears running back David Montgomery had to exit Sunday’s victory over the Lions early, and it looks like he’ll be out for a while.

According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Montgomery will be out for the next four to five weeks with a knee sprain.

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that the injury is not expected to keep Montgomery out for the rest of the season.

Montgomery has twice rushed for 100 yards this season — in Chicago’s season opener against the Rams and in Week Four against Detroit. He has 309 yards and three touchdowns rushing as well as six catches for 49 yards.

With Montgomery out, the Bears currently have Damien Williams and Khalil Herbert on their 53-man roster at running back. Chicago also has Ryan Nall on its practice squad. Williams is second on the team with 73 rushing yards and has a rushing touchdown in 2021.

  1. This hurts. One of the reasons Fields looked good was he had a running game to take off a lot of pressure.

  2. Montgomery has been fantastic. Him being out would be one more reason to sit Fields for a bit longer… to me.

Bear fans, what do you guys think?

  3. Bears haven’t been using Monty correctly dude can catch the ball. Especially teams like the Browns are sending blitzes upfield dump it off. We really need Cohen back now.

  4. I just looked. The Bears next 6 opponents are:

Other than the Packers as they currently sit, that’s pretty much a murderer’s row of defensive fronts. Do you guys really want to send Fields out there to face all that? Remember Cleveland?

This kid could be the face of your franchise for the next 15 to 20 years… unless you decide to ruin him in the hopes of winning a couple extra games this year. Is it really going to be worth it?

The Bears need to sign Frank Gore.

Oh look, my stalker is back. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

(I still don’t love him and he still can’t make me.)

  6. Good he will be back for the playoffs. He will be able to sit at home and watch the packers lose in the first round.
