With famed edge rusher Khalil Mack and the rest of Chicago’s defense coming to Las Vegas for a Week Five matchup, it looks like the Raiders are making some changes along their offensive line.

Las Vegas selected Alex Leatherwood with the 17th overall pick of this year’s draft with the idea that he would be a Day One starter at right tackle. That did end up being the case, as Leatherwood started the first four games of the season at that position.

But now, according to multiple reporters on the Raiders beat, Leatherwood is taking snaps at right guard on Thursday with Brandon Parker at right tackle.

Leatherwood has struggled at right tackle through the first four weeks. But even if the Raiders are moving him inside for now, he could find his way back onto the island that is the offensive tackle position later on.

Jermaine Eluemunor had been starting for Las Vegas at right guard.

Parker has started several games at right tackle for the Raiders since the team selected him in the third round  of the 2018 draft.

Reports indicate Kolton Miller is still at left tackle and Andre James is at center, with John Simpson filling in at left guard while Richie Incognito remains on injured reserve.

But as hard as it is to find good pass rushers, it might be harder to find tackles to stop the quality edge defenders playing Las Vegas this weekend.

  1. As early as we are in the season, Gruden knows this weekend could be a make-or-break weekend against the Bears. Not because of ego – he already won round 1 of the Mack revenge game. And he doesn’t care about the draft critics. It’s make-or-break because, for the Raiders, they can’t afford to lose momentum in the AFC. They must make the playoffs this year and every game counts. Whatever it takes, they’ve got to win now.

  2. This smells like the beginning of yet another 1st round miss by Gruden/Mayock. Ferrel, Arnette, and the jury is still out on Abram. After getting rid of 3/5ths of their line they couldn’t afford to have Leatherwood be a project. He needed to be a solid contributor day 1.

  3. Perfect, Mack and Quinn are going to terrorize Carr and this big dumb rookie lineman!

  4. Round one was in London and the Raiders had to be there ALL week to prepare to squeak by the Bears.

  5. Leatherwood will be a darn good guard. He is a great run blocker this will play to his strength.

  6. Bosa abused Leatherwood Mon night. Caused Carr to get shook and fold, take a sack and throw an INT.

  7. Leatherwoods issue are his penalties. Played pretty solid otherwise. I would contribute him taking snaps at RG more to do with the terrible play of the two guards were using as injury replacements to our starters
