It was a bad night for fingers, a bad night for kickers, and it proved to be a bad night for the Seahawks.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford injured his right index finger at the end of the first half. He never left the game. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson dislocated his right middle finger in the third quarter when his hand connected with the right hand of Aaron Donald on his follow through of a long incompletion to Tyler Lockett. Wilson had to leave the game, and Geno Smith replaced him.

Despite changing the wrap on his finger more than once, Stafford wasn’t bothered by his injury. He went 12-of-18 for 234 yards with a touchdown in the second half, leading the Rams to a 26-17 victory over the Seahawks.

The Cardinals (4-0) are the NFL’s last undefeated team and reside atop the NFC West standings. The Rams moved to 4-1 while the Seahawks fell to 2-3.

It turned into an entertaining game that had a little of everything, including a two punts on the same play by Seattle’s Michael Dickson after his first attempt was blocked.

Seahawks kicker Jason Myers missed a 35-yard field goal before halftime, two plays after the Seahawks had a touchdown nullified by a holding penalty on Duane Brown. Rams kicker Matt Gay missed an extra point and kicked two kickoffs out of bounds but his 47-yarder with 24 seconds left iced the game.

The Seahawks trailed 16-7 when Smith replaced Wilson, and he kept Seattle in it with 10 points in his first two drives. He threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to DK Metcalf, Smith’s first touchdown throw since 2017 when he was with the Giants, to complete a 98-yard drive.

The Rams, though, matched the touchdown with one of their own on a Sony Michel 2-yard run with 6:08 left.

After a 32-yard field goal by Myers, the Rams picked up only one first down. That gave Smith one last opportunity to pull out a miracle. The Seahawks got the ball back with 2:09 remaining at their own 16. But Lockett fell down on the first snap after Seattle got the ball back, and Nick Scott made an easy interception of Smith with 2:02 remaining.

Smith finished 10-of-17 for 131 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Wilson was 11-of-16 for 152 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Stafford completed 25 of 37 passes for 365 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Robert Woods caught 12 passes for 150 yards, and Cooper Kupp made seven receptions for 92 yards. DeSean Jackson had a 68-yard reception.

Darrell Henderson rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

  1. Cardinals truely the most impressive team in this division.
Was underwhelmed by both teams till Gino showed up.

  2. Rams look like contenders. Kupp and Woods manning those short and intermediate routes and DeSean and Jefferson can take the top off. Decent run game and a decent TE. They just have to put it all together defensively and they’ll be right there at the end of the year.

  3. Matt Stafford is not an elite QB. Please take the blinders off. When the game gets tight he folds like a lawn chair.

  4. Stafford can get it done, which he did in this game. Folding like lawn chair would’ve been losing this game after being down at the half. People can hate on Pete Carroll but he usually puts together a game plan that makes his team competitive (which he did). If the Niners had a kicker the Hawks would’ve lost last week. This is not the Seattle team of yesteryear. They will be fighting with the Niners all year for who finishes last in that division.

  5. Urban Meyer about to have competition for that USC job. Seattle is in trouble in that division

  6. I agree the Rams defense is not as good as last year but hold the other team under 20 and you have a good chance to win. They did that today and that was enough.

To be fair the defense closed this one out . This is the type of game you will get from Stafford , very inconsistent . To his credit his stats usually look good but that’s only part of the story . In the first half he was terrible , missing open receivers negating big gains along with throwing a ridiculous interception another hallmark of his career in Detroit . He played better in the second half but just like in Detroit he failed to close out the game numerous times against a team that was struggling on defense . He allowed the Seahawks to get the ball back after a 3 and out with a chance to take the lead late but was bailed out by the interception . Get used to it Rams fans , nothing will be easy with Stafford at QB .

  9. Michael Dickson punt-block and re-punt was the best play by a kicker we’ve seen in a long while… on the replay you can watch the Rams sideline jumping up like they won the Super Bowl, then confused as Dickson hustles to get the ball, and after he punts again — the Rams sidelines goes ballistic as if it’s against the rules. Brilliant play by Dickson and the Ram coaches looked like idiots.

  10. Good to see Stafford finally getting the chance to show what he has. He’s an excellent QB who was stuck with pathetic teams in Detroit.

  11. Stafford started missing and airmailing throws when the game was tight. Lucky the Seahawks were even worse.

If you mean inconsistent play along with a silly interception and allowing a clearly inferior defense to keep him from putting the game away I agree he’s finally getting the chance to show what he has which is exactly what he did in Detroit , lol .

  13. I see all the sorry Detroit fans coming out to bash Stafford. Detroit had an all time great in Barry Sanders wasted his whole career there. They had all time great receiver in Calvin Johnson and promptly wasted his entire career. In fact both Sanders and Johnson were so done with Detroit they choose to retire relatively young then continue playing for them. Then they got a franchise QB. A guy who makes all the throws and puts up big numbers and as he is showing can drastically improve a team. I mean compare how the Rams look so far this season with Stafford to how they looked last year with Jared Geoff….This year so far they are a ligit superbowl contender. So Detroit….Please have fun with Geoff.

Did you watch the last two games ? Rams fans are thinking Super Bowl and your team isn’t even the best team in their division . Any semblance of a decent first half from Stafford the game would have been over . Instead you got the inconsistent guy who always lets teams hang around regardless of how bad the defenses perform . The Seahawks are on a record setting pace for defensive futility and yet thanks to Stafford’s inability to get one lousy first down late in the 4th the Seahawks had the ball and a chance to take the lead with Geno Smith leading the comeback , lol.

  15. Did you all see the Packers-Seahawks playoff game in 2019 when the Packers earned the game ending 1st down and Pete Carroll threw a tantrum like a 2 year old whose mom wouldn’t buy him a treat? That was funny.
