Jamie Collins “couldn’t stop smiling” after signing with New England for third time

Jamie Collins was drafted by the Patriots in 2013. After leaving for Cleveland in 2016, he was released and went back to New England in 2019. After leaving again to join the Lions in 2020, he was released and signed with the Patriots for a third time this week.

He likes it in New England.

I couldn’t stop smiling. Even just meeting everybody, and the new guys were looking like, ‘Who is this? Who is this? Who him? Who him?’ It was just super cool, man,” Collins said of his return to the Patriots’ locker room, via the Boston Herald. “Like I said, just coming back in here and just knowing I can go out with these guys again for the third time.”

Bill Belichick was noncommittal about whether Collins will play on Sunday against the Texans, but Collins made clear that he wants to be on the field with his new (old) team.

“I hope so. We’ll see, though,” Collins said. “Like I said, I just got here. I come here to do my job, and I’m just here to do my job. Like I said, it’s a privilege and it’s an honor, and I’m grateful to be here. Whatever [Belichick] wants, [Belichick] gets.”

Belichick has shown that he doesn’t want to pay Collins big money, and that’s why the Patriots have let him walk in free agency twice. But Belichick does want Collins at the right price, and now he has him a third time.

  1. Welcome back Jamie. It’s a little different now. Winning 25% of our games is how we do things.

  2. Not to be “that guy,” but Collins was traded in-season to the Browns. This was a big deal at the time. He did leave for Detroit as a free agent after his second stint.

  3. Collins didn’t leave the Pats for the Browns, he was traded mid season and then signed an extension the following offseason. He was on the 0-16 browns the following year and was released after the browns went 7-9 in 2018. BB didn’t like his freelancing and the rumor is that Collins wanted a big payday so he was sent to football purgatory. He made $30M in 30 games and only won 8 of them. It always appeared that BB wanted to teach him a lesson about choosing money over winning.

  4. They said the lions couldn’t stop smiling after he left, he was part of the problem couldn’t cover a bed if he was a blanket!!!

  5. That Collins couldn’t stop smiling doesn’t surprise me. Im waiting to see who else smiles.

  6. Belichick tries to have his players do what they are effective at doing. Not what they are weak at doing. He excels at not only doing so, but in doing it within a team concept. Van Noy and Collins are prime examples.

    Simple concept but common sense.

He is also a master of the salary cap. Somehow he will replace 5 of 6 starting OL men on Sunday. He can do that because he packs the roster and plans for the reality that injuries happen. Most teams are a mess if they lose one or two starters.

He will likely adapt the gameplan to fit the pieces he has. Mac Jones won’t pass it 80% of the time this week like he did against the Bucs.

  7. A leopard never changes his spots. One who quits on all the other teams he has been on will usually quit on his current team when they suck.

  8. This guy is a baby who dogs it on teams he doesn’t want to play for, which is every team but New England.

  9. Mr bur, do you really think the Lions are a good judge of talent? Collins was a very good player in his previous stops with the Pats, and who is this “they” you refer to-source and context count

  10. Belichick has shown that he doesn’t want to pay Collins big money. Nonsense other teams just offered way more then the Pat’s could spend at the position.

  11. Don’t think a guy signs for big money twice only to quit on both teams to force a release allowing him to go back to the Patriots on the cheap should be applauded .

  12. I would smile too after fleecing the Browns out of $30 million for a couple years of below average work.

  13. Trey Flowers hasn’t been much better for the Lions, has missed more games than he has played it seems like, while getting cap-busting money. Bob Quinn did just an awful job. The thing is, it was apparent a couple of years earlier what was going on, and the Ford’s didn’t do what was best for the team, which would have been to fire them early. It was clear Quinn was in over his head and that nobody, and I mean nobody, respected Matt Patricia.

  14. We were specifically told that no one wants to play for BB.

    lmao

How much more disinformation can possibly be used against the apats due to a raging jealousy and obsession by other fanbases?

  15. Hightower, Van Noy and Collins were all great/solid linebackers. They are getting old and slow and it really shows on the field. Collins can probably help the pass rush. Not much else. Pats are now a below average team that will be last in the AFC east for sometimes. Even the Jets have more potential. Sad to see.

Do you watch the NFL? They’re the 6th rated D already and put on a masterclass vs Brady on Sunday night.

I haven’t seen the deer in the headlights look from Brady since the week before vs the Rams, yet it was worse than that.

You people are the same delusional person.

Mac Jones is setting NFL rookie records left and right through 4 games as well.

  17. Collins, Jones, and Hightower were top tier players in New England. All were due to hit free agency at the same time. No way was Belichick willing or able to pay all three top dollar as stud free agents in the salary cap era. So he traded Collins and Jones, who both got lucrative deals in their next stops. Hightower helped NE to a couple Super Bowl titles. So it was a good decision by GM Belichick. He even got Collins back a couple of times now.
BB likes linebackers – recall he coaxed Junior Seau out of retirement (and to a Super Bowl) and even signed James Harrison for a twilight tour. Junior said signing in NE was like going to grad school. When BB calls, you can’t say no.
Per above, NE D is ranked 5 or 6 and pretty formidable – see Brady’s paltry 51% passing last game and a near loss to NE (those expecting him “to put up 50” should be fired for being so out of touch). I expect the NE D just got better.
Who knows, maybe he plans to have Collins play O line?

No, you were told no one will play for belichick on the cheap anymore. If you overpay a player (jonnu Smith and hunter henry) or the player has no other options ( cam Newton and Jamie collins) they will gladly play for belichick.

The deer in the headlights drove his team into position for a 4th quarter win and his team’s defense didn’t choke the game away like BB’s so often did
