Raiders special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia long has sought to become a head coach. He surely did not want it to be this way, but the long-time assistant coach now gets an opportunity to show he deserves a full-time head coaching job.

Bisaccia, the assistant head coach, will serve as interim head coach of the team, the team announced.

He replaces Jon Gruden, who resigned Monday night after emails he wrote expressing racist, sexist, homophobic and otherwise offensive sentiments were leaked to the media.

Bisaccia served as Gruden’s special teams coordinator in Tampa Bay from 2002-2008 and remained with the Bucs in that position for two more years after Gruden’s departure. He then coached the Chargers’ special teams for two years and the Cowboys’ special teams for five years before rejoining Gruden in 2018 with the Raiders.

  1. We’re all of his prior emails he has ever sent evaluated prior to naming him the interim head coach?

  2. So we have another new limb on the Jon Gruden coaching tree. Time will tell if Bisaccia will be as good as Tomlin & McVay or as bad as Bill Callahan, Marc Trestman, Raheem Morris, Jay Gruden, Rod Marinelli, and Gus Bradley.

  3. I wish him the best, and I doubt we’ll be seeing Gruden any time soon. He can go sit on his giant pile of $ and repent…for something he did 10 years ago.

  4. If I was Gruden, I’d sue the NFL to force them to release everyone else’s compromising e-mails, too.

  5. Dan Snyder leaked them to embarrass Bruce Allen and take the heat off of him. Gruden was just collateral damage

  6. You mean to tell me with all that stuff that went on in Washington that John gruden’s the only one they have stuff on?

  7. Eric Bieniemy will be the next head coach of the Raiders. Mark “Tommy Boy” Davis will hire him because the league will tell him to.

  8. If he was writing emails like that 10 years ago, you can be darn sure he is thinking, writing, and saying the same stuff to this day. Don’t act like the 10 year gap makes it permissible.

Sad, wanted to see the Cable Guy part 2.
    Such an underrated comment

  10. See this is why you don’t send emails to someone’s work email. It’s always potentially discoverable. Couldn’t they use Gmail?

  11. This stems from the workplace investigation into the WFT. These emails were exchanged between Gruden and his one time puppet Bruce Allen.

I honestly believe these emails only saw the light of day because Gruden had bad things to say about Roger Goodell. Roger got ticked and decided Gruden needed to pay with his job. Gruden is now toast as to coaching or broadcasting.

  12. Ultimately, this could turn out really well for the Raiders. That crazy all-guaranteed contract to Gruden was like an albatross around their necks and they were basically going to be forced to let him serve out the entire contract. This saves them a ton of cash and frees them up to find somebody who actually might succeed. No guarantee Davis will pick a winner this time around but no way was Gruden going to get them over the hump.

Mark Davis will sign Bissacia to a $50 million 5 year contract.
Perhaps you’d rather have Urban Myer at $12 million a year.
