San Francisco quarterback Trey Lance suffered a knee injury Sunday that may cause him to miss time.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said today that Lance has a knee sprain and might not be available for the 49ers’ next game, in two weeks against the Colts. The 49ers are on their bye this week.

It’s unclear whether Lance would play against the Colts even if he’s healthy. Shanahan said after Sunday’s game that Jimmy Garoppolo, who is recovering from a calf injury, will start when he’s healthy.

Lance did not realize he had hurt his knee until after the game and doesn’t know what play the injury happened on. Lance was sacked twice, hit multiple other times while passing, and ran the ball 16 times.

  1. 16 runs. People wonder why running quarterbacks never win superbowls. Add in a 17th game, plus 3 more to get there. Even if they make it they are too beat up. When is this trend of college offenses and running quarterback options going away in the NFL?

  2. If Garoppolo could stay healthy, they wouldn’t have needed to draft a QB. Garoppolo has a lot of ability, but the best ability is availability. Lance is still miles away. Too far away to even begin to thing about how far away.

  3. QB, RB, TE cannot seem to stay healthy in Shanahan’s gimmicky offense. Good luck Trey, you are going to need it.

  4. History show the more mobile the QB the shorter the career…
He that brittle, His will be very short!
