Bears put Damien Williams on COVID-19 list

The Bears are already down starting running back David Montgomery, and now they’re without Montgomery’s backup as well.

Bears running back Damien Williams was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list today.

It’s possible that Williams could still play on Sunday against the Packers, if he’s vaccinated and tests negative on both Friday and Saturday, but it’s unlikely. No player has returned that quickly from the COVID-19 list.

So that means the Bears will likely be down to their third-string running back, sixth-round rookie Khalil Herbert, against the Packers.

  1. Khalil Herbert actually played more snaps than Williams during the Raiders game, and earned more rushing yards in just three more carriers. So they are seemingly pretty interchangeable. The concern is the depth behind him. Ryan Nall was called up from the practice squad last week, but was used as a FB primarily. To me, this presents as a prime opportunity to get Fields out on some designed runs, boots and RPO’s.

  2. Packers fans better not get ahead of themselves here. These games are always tough and unpredictable. At Soldier Field, more so.

  3. If y’all really think the bears go win you are crazy they have no quarterback and fields is not ready he is averaging 120 yards passing a game they go need more than that they are doomed

  4. Green Bay has won 10 of their last 11 at Soldier Field. Gee whiz, that’s predictable in the NFL.

Damn that really hurts my fantasy team

    Khalil Herbert owners, rejoice!

  6. Oh well, looks like the Bears running game is now in the hands of Herbert and Ryan Nall. That’s OK with me. Nall has a chance to show what he can do.

  7. Let’s go Herbert!!! This is exciting!!! Love seeing rookie RBs get their shot!

  8. Herbert is the real deal, averaged over 6 yds a carry in college. And yes, I picked him up 2 days ago.

  9. Been very impressed with Herbert during the preseason and slice of time playing in the regular season. I’m more worried who else is behind him. Now you’re down to RB’s #4 & #5 as back ups.

Thinking we’re going to see all TE’s on deck.
