Browns running back Nick Chubb will not play on Sunday against the Cardinals.

The Browns announced today that Chubb has been ruled out after not practicing with a calf injury.

With Chubb out, Kareem Hunt is likely to get a larger-than-usual workload in the Browns’ offense. Hunt is officially listed as questionable on the injury report, but indications have been that he should be able to play.

The Browns have also ruled out linebacker Malcolm Smith (abdomen).

Other key players the Browns listed as questionable include left tackle Jedrick Wills, right tackle Jack Conklin and defensive ends Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney.

  1. All pressure is now on Baker. If he melts down, the Browns are not going to pay him.

  2. OUCH! Time for Baker to step up . Hunt time and Johnson will get some work as well . Goo Browns.

  3. For those who haven’t watched the Browns they are LOADED at running back. Basically this means maybe a .2% less difference in their production

Without Chubb they “only” have Kareem Hunt getting Chubbs normal carries from the backfield and Demetric Felton who has pretty much run circles around everyone the few carries he’s gotten taking Hunts spot as the checkdown receiving back. Also O’dell Beckham will probably get used in the running game now similar to the last time Chubb went down.

  4. Like how some are concerned with Baker getting paid. Baker is getting paid. The debate is how much.

  5. Last time Chubb went out in week 4 vs Dallas last year, D’Earnest Johnson went off for 7.5 yards per carry (13 carries for 97 yards)… Pick your poison with this running back room. The Brown’s 4th string back could start for most teams.

  6. Baker is a moderate to high level game manager. Like the Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe said, you can name 15 active QB’s who are better than him.

  7. That people are making this about Baker just blows my mind. He had a stellar game last week, really has had only one bad game, and I don’t care who you are you don’t score 40 burgers and suck. You also don’t give up 45 and lose.

I also don’t project five weeks in.

  8. Mr Jets puts that Baker comment on every Browns article. The money must be coming out of his pocket with how much he obsesses over whether or not he gets paid.

  9. 17 game season, my bet is Chubb plays Thursday and Hunt gets that game off, starting a new trend with RB committees with Thursday short weeks.

  10. Hate to see Chubb hurt, but if there’s a silver lining to this it’s the fact that Kareem Hunt is on my fantasy team. Hopefully, everyone can take solace in this.

  11. Browns lose Chubb, Smith, probably Wills and maybe Conklin. Plus 8 other “questionable” players who may or may not play. ouch.
Cards lose HC, starting D tackle, starting center and probably Chandler Jones. ouch.
At least the Browns have Hunt…who would probably be the starting RB on about 24 other teams. The Cardinals do not even have an OC to take over play-calling.

Advantage? Browns. Hopefully, it’s enough for the home team to win one.
