Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is not in Cleveland with the team after testing positive for COVID-19 this week and his absence will lead to changes in duties for some of the team’s assistant coaches.

The Cardinals announced that defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and assistant head coach/special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers will split head coaching responsibilities during the game. Kingsbury also calls the team’s offensive plays and filling that role will also involve a couple of coaches.

Chris Mortensen reports that offensive line coach/run game coordinator Sean Kugler and assistant wide receivers coach Spencer Whipple will be handling the playcalling duties against the Browns. Whipple was the passing game coordinator at UMass before joining the Cardinals in 2019 while Kugler spent five years as the head coach at UTEP in addition to numerous NFL jobs.

The Cardinals staff will also be without quarterbacks coach Cam Turner because of a positive COVID-19 test. Pass rusher Chandler Jones and defensive lineman Zach Allen are on the COVID-19 reserve list and will not play.

  1. Just let Kyler go all backyard football when on offense. If there is one QB who could do it, it would be him.

  2. Spencer Whipple is an excellent play caller and has done it before. OL coach Kugler is not only a top notch OL coach as one of the NFLs best OL coach’s but he also is the run game coordinator and designs the run game every week. Kugler is also a former college HC. I think these two will do a very good job in Kingsbury absence n give AZ a chance to win the game. Both are offensive football coach’s in the NFL for a reason after all.

AZ is without multiple key guys for this game but at least AZ will get them all back this next week and AZ will be healthy by mid week and then AZ can staet working excellent receiving TE Zac Ertz for next weekend. AZ has so many weapons now it’s almost unfair as teams are built in the NFL to cover so many weapons between DHOP, AJ Green, Christian Kirk, Rondale Moore, Chase Edmonds is arguably the best pass catching Back in the NFL, TE Richard Rodgers is a decent receiver and solid blocker and lastly AZ now has a top tier receiving TE in Zac Ertz which now that he has an extremely accurate top 5 QB He is gonna off as a receiver in AZ.
