The Seahawks put Chris Carson on injured reserve last week and Alex Collins got banged up in Sunday night’s loss to the Steelers, so there’s a need for some help in the backfield in Seattle.

Head coach Pete Carroll is looking to Rashaad Penny to provide some of it. Penny is able to come off of injured reserve this week and Carroll said Monday that he is ready to return to action this week.

“It’s extremely important that he comes back to us now and helps out in the running game and all that,” Carroll said, via Liz Mathews of USAToday.com. “I’m really excited for him. It’s been a long year and return and all that for him. It’s been really frustrating for him. He’s really raring to go.”

Penny had two carries for eight yards in the season opener before hurting his calf.

  1. Love the Seahawks, but we have to cut bait on this guy at some point. He is made of candy glass (breaks easier than real glass). And when he is healthy, he has never shown flashes in the NFL of being able to carry the running game. Frankly, we should have kept McKissic.

  2. What’s the over/under on how many carries until he’s injured again? Hopefully he can beat his previous streak of 2.

  3. Seahawks fan here, no way should we count on anything from him other than he’ll be hurt and unable “to go,”
