Bruce Arians: Rob Gronkowski probably shouldn’t have played

The Buccaneers got three players back in the lineup on Sunday after they missed time with injuries, but linebacker Lavonte David was the only one to make a real impact in their loss to the Saints.

David played every defensive snap, but cornerback Richard Sherman never got on the field and tight end Rob Gronkowski left with back spasms after playing five snaps. Gronkowski had missed four games with injured ribs and Bucs head coach Bruce Arians expressed some regret about having Gronkowski on the field after the game.

“Gronk probably shouldn’t have played either,” Arians said, via Pewter Report. “But he kept begging to get in there. Then he re-injured himself.”

The Buccaneers have a bye in Week Nine, so there’s time for Gronkowski, Sherman, and others to do some more healing before taking another shot at making a full return to action.

  1. I said it when Gronk took the rib injury earlier this season…. If they (the Bucs) bring him back before December they are fools…. He is there for Playoff wins and playoff wins only. He just needs a few weeks in December/January to get up to speed and he is good to go for the playoffs. The man just can’t stay healthy, why waste him on regular season games!!

  2. I’ll take Gronk any day. There are lots of guys taking themselves out of games for no reason. Gronk’s a winner. That’s the way winners do it.

  3. Right – blame it on Gronk, not the coach, or even New Orleans! Lol!!

  4. If Tom Brady stays on his present course throughout this season, he will be sacked about 29 times, and throw roughly 27 interceptions; roughly 27 interceptions 😆

  5. It’s not like the BUCS need him now. It’s during the playoffs when they’ll go up against contenders that Gronk will make a big difference.Rest the big guy while you can.
