PFT’s Week Nine 2021 power rankings

1. Packers (7-1, last week No. 4): They’ve come a very long way from Week One.

2. Rams (7-1, No. 3): The Rams hate draft picks more than St. Louis hates Stan Kroenke.

3. Cardinals (7-1, No. 1): Kyler Murray‘s injury looms over Week Nine against the 49ers.

4. Bills (5-2, No. 5): They seemed just a little off, against a Miami team they should have destroyed.

5. Cowboys (6-1, No. 6): This is the best Dallas team in a long time. Which really isn’t that hard to do, given the overall quality of Dallas teams in recent years.

6. Saints (5-2, No. 12): They’re now 3-0 against the Brady Buccaneers in the regular season. They’d trade all of them for being 1-0 against Brady’s Bucs in the postseason.

7. Buccaneers (6-2, No. 2): Every time they look like they’re ready to dominate, they don’t.

8. Titans (6-2, No. 8): Should they be lower without Derrick Henry? Possibly. If/when they lose without him, they will be.

9. Ravens (5-2, No. 9): They backed into first place during their bye week, thanks to Cincinnati bungling a double-digit lead against the Jets.

10. Raiders (5-2, No. 11): The Raiders soon could be the best team in the conference.

11. Bengals (5-3, No. 7): Despite their talent, the Bengals aren’t ready to be an elite team.

12. Steelers (4-3, No. 15): Despite their flaws, the Steelers are ready to be an elite team.

13. Patriots (4-4, No. 16): If they make it to the single-elimination round, it’s going to get very interesting.

14. Chargers (4-3, No. 10): L.A.’s “B” team is earning its status.

15. Chiefs (4-4, No. 17): A narrow home win over the Giants doesn’t inspire confidence for the stretch of games that is coming up, starting with a visit from the Packers.

16. Browns (4-4, No. 13): They don’t do high expectations very well.

17. Vikings (3-4, No. 14): They don’t do low expectations very well.

18. Panthers (4-4, No. 18): They can be dangerous, if/when Christian McCaffrey returns.

19. Seahawks (3-5, No. 21): They’re still alive, but the margin for error is small.

20. Colts (3-5, No. 19): Can they make up four games in nine against a Titans team without Derrick Henry?

21. 49ers (3-4, No. 22): Beating the Bears hardly solves this team’s problems.

22. Falcons (3-4, No. 20): They still have a decent chance to snag the No. 7 seed, and get splattered in the wild-card round.

23. Eagles (3-5, No. 24): Something something flowers fertilizer.

24. Broncos (4-4, No. 25): Trading Von Miller won’t solve their growing no-show problem.

25. Bears (3-5, No. 23): Their record is starting to better match their current status.

26. Jets (2-5, No. 29): Some Jets fans apparently are ready to trade Zach Wilson.

27. Giants (2-5, No. 26): The fish stinks again.

28. Washington (2-6, No. 28): They have a few winnable games left on the schedule, but not nearly enough.

29. Jaguars (1-6, No. 27): They’ll always have their win over the Dolphins and two weeks of thinking maybe they had a chance to get another one.

30. Dolphins (1-7, No. 30): Why would Deshaun Watson want to be traded to Miami, anyway?

31. Texans (1-7, No. 31): The strategy in every survivor pool is simple — take whoever is playing the Texans.

32. Lions (0-8, No. 32): The only way to explain the fan base at this point is Stockholm Syndrome.

  1. Vikings should be much lower. From coaching to lack of QB leadership, my beloved team is a complete joke.

  2. Cardinals beat the Rams HANDILY in LA, only lose to the #1 team on the list…

And are behind the Rams ?

    I love lists !!

  3. Chiefs will beat the Packers convincingly this week. It’s all part of the narrative/storyline unfolding this year. Packers at 7-2 will be fine, and the struggling Chiefs big win will give the media something to rave about for the next week. Chiefs are ready to retake the AFC West as the Raiders begin to falter a bit down the stretch. Gamblers, pick the Chiefs this week. Packers will be a suckers bet

  4. Nice to see some in the national sports media FINALLY admitting KC just isn’t that good this year, after propping them up for almost half of the season so far.

  5. The Steelers are ready to be an elite team? Yinz needs to look at their entire body of work and QB play.

  6. Downgrading the Bengals so harshly seems unfair. Granted they lost to the Jets, but so did the Titans. Cincinnati won games in Pittsburgh and Baltimore in convincing fashion, and lost in overtime to the Packers because of some kicking misadventures.
A questionable referee call and one bad throw by Joe Burrow shouldn’t lead to such a quick dismissal or at minimum a ranking below a team that they just blew out two weeks ago.

  7. Teams still ranked too high, Bills and Ravens.
Bills yet to defeat a team with a winning record, and oddly struggling against a bad Dolphins team.
Ravens ahead of the two teams that beat them.

  8. After slam dunk wins over the Bears and Lions I see the Steelers creeping back into the Top 10! GO STEELERS!

  9. Cardinals smoked the Rams in LA 37-20 AND the Cards took a knee at the 10 to end the game….yet the Rams are ranked higher. Get Real

  10. Do these rankings not realize that the Cowboys easily had the best team in the NFC in 2016? Not only was it by far the most winning team that year, but also the entire NFC East was very strong, similar to what we’re seeing in the NFC West this year. Five years is not a “long time”.

Told ya, the Bucs are fools gold. Brady just beats up on inferior opponents.

Kinda like you told us last year that Brady going to Tampa
    Would be a failure?

Remember how you were wrong about EVERYTHING

  12. Cardinals fans last week: “When will the cardinals get their respect?”. Apparently they were properly respected.

  13. Pretty sure the Dolphins should be ranked under Alabama, Cincinnati, and Michigan State.

  14. Teams still ranked too high, Bills and Ravens.
Bills yet to defeat a team with a winning record, and oddly struggling against a bad Dolphins team.
Ravens ahead of the two teams that beat them.
    __________________________________________________________________________

The Raiders lost Bears, but ranked ahead of them. Cincy lost to the Jets and ranked ahead of them. So, what’s your point? Ravens are in first place, for real, in their division, not on somebody’s rank list. How bout that?

  15. Speaking of survivor, how confident are you in taking Miami over Houston if you have Dallas over Denver as the other option?

Not everything. I was wrong about Tampa, not Brady. I knew he could not handle the Bucs offense, no dink and dunk. So, they dumbed-down the system for him, not the first time for Brady. Wild-card team, Brees gifts, 3 picks against GB. Team carries Brady again.

  17. Not trying to make excuses, but the Bengals lost on their 3rd straight road game, and they’re not ready for prime-time? Yet the Bucs give up 36 to Trevor Siemian and little is said. Titans lost to this same Jets team and they ARE ready for prime-time?

  18. The Bucs will be fine. The defense will get healthier and they will get Gronk and AB back. Brady needs his security blanket and the Bucs will be right there in the end.

    —————

Yes, the Bills struggled badly against the Dolphins en route to outscoring them 61-11 this year.

  20. The Bucs will indeed be fine. That said, their defense gave up 30 points (plus the pick-6 from the TB offense) against a Saints team that does not resemble their offensive juggernauts in the Brees era. Plus the Rams (a legit offensive juggernaut) beat the brakes off the Bucs D. If I were a Bucs fan I’d be most concerned about that defense

  21. Why do you guys keep saying this team beat that team, so… There is no mathematical way to create a ranking with that kind of philosophy. The Jets beat the Bengals and the Titans, that should put them somewhere at #7 with your thinking.

Only Tom Brady can go through 3 playoff games and SB
Throw for over 1000 yards 12 tds and 3 picks
And he’s “carried by his team”

If not for Brady they don’t make it out of the wildcard game.
Oh and as for Brady “not handling the Bucs Offense “ yet some how was at the top of the league in passes completed 20 or more yards down field.

    And so far this season.

Tom Brady’s age-44 season ranks after 8 games

    Yards: 1st (2,650)
    TD: 1st (25)
    First Downs: 1st (138)
    DYAR: 2nd (910)
    DVOA: 3rd (26.8%)
    ANY/A: 4th (8.00)
    EPA/play: 2nd (0.263)
    QBR: 2nd (69.4)
    PFF grade: 1st (91.3)

But what would a Raven’s fan know about QB play?

Oh and Brady OWNS the Ravens too. (9-4)

  23. The Bucs falling in the list doesn’t matter. Tommy will bounce back – he always does. I’m glad they lost – so everyone can see how great Tom Brady is, like in Rocky 3. When Rocky lost to Mr. T, it just gave everyone a chance to see Rocky’s greatness. This latest Saints loss will just give Tommy a chance to prove his excellence in the game of football – and it will be entertaining. Brady rules all.

  24. But what would a Raven’s fan know about QB play?
    _____________________________________________________________

I don’t really care about these individual performances or Brady throwing 6 TDs late in the 4th quarter against bad teams. Brady just gets too much credit for team wins, IMO. Guys like Manning, Rodgers and Lamar Jackson are the team. If they have a subpar game, their team loses, Brady, not so much.

  25. “The Raiders lost Bears, but ranked ahead of them. Cincy lost to the Jets and ranked ahead of them. So, what’s your point? Ravens are in first place, for real, in their division, not on somebody’s rank list. How bout that?”
Ravens fans shouldn’t be crowing about a team that came the closest to losing to the winless Lions. Especially when that win came as a result of the refs ignoring the game clock.

And yet they were still tied 3-3 with that one win team late into the third quarter of that game. Very impressive win there…
Again, beat a club with a winning record, before getting too excited about their season.

  27. I’m as much of a homer Ravens fan as there is, but even I know that Nite2Al’s comment about Brady not being as important as Manning, Rodgers, and Lamar Jackson is just ludicrous. First of all, Brady is the GOAT. Hands down. And he’s arguably still the best QB in the league. At age 44! Second, as much as I love Lamar, even mentioning him with those other 3 is stupid. Lamar has won a lot of regular season games and is as exciting as they come, but none of it matters until he starts winning playoff games, let alone a Super Bowl. But trying to say Lamar is their equal, or anything remotely close, is pure delusion.

  28. As a Patriots fan, if at the beginning of the year you told me the chiefs and Patriots would both be 4-4 id call you delusional. It seems like they’re going different directions as well

  29. Ravens way too high. That defense really scares me. When was the last time someone said something like that about a Ravens defense? Bengals offense pushed them all over the field.

  30. Pats way to low. We keep up with all the best teams in the league and have proven the last two weeks we know how to win games! Be afraid!

  31. Says something about a team that wins 26-11 and looks “off.” I agree with what you said, because they infuriated me for 2.5 quarters, but they ultimately covered the spread and got things done.
