Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is officially questionable for Sunday’s game against the 49ers with an ankle injury. But Cardinals General Manager Steve Keim hinted on Friday that the team may err on the side of caution with Murray.

Keim said on 98.7 that the Cardinals have to focus on more than just one game when deciding what to do with their franchise quarterback. Keim’s comments sounded similar to the comments that Cowboys officials made last week before ultimately deciding not to play quarterback Dak Prescott.

“I know Kyler can play, he extremely tough, and I don’t think there are any questions in our organization internally about his mental makeup or his willingness to play through anything,” Keim said, via the Cardinals’ website. “We have to be smart whether he is going to play or not and think about the big picture. We have to make sure we don’t re-aggravate something or do something that is going to hurt us later in the season. I know we will do the right thing and go through the checks and balances process and make sure the right decision is made.”

Keim also said the Cardinals think they can win with backup quarterback Colt McCoy.

“We really feel like he can sort of function at a high level in this offense,” Keim said of McCoy.

In the end, Keim indicated that the Cardinals won’t know until pregame warmups whether Murray is playing.

  1. Vegas line has already moved. How do they know these things before it come out? I smell fish.

  2. Keim is smart. It’s November 5th. Nothing important going on right now. Get ready for the next 2-3 months. That’s the part if the season everyone will remember.

  3. You can be as smart and as big picture as you want, Sir. But Tiny Kyler, even with his sliding abilities, is 5’7”. Cannot last. Is not.

Have you been watching modern football? The QB is the most protected player on the field.

  5. It seems more than likely that Murray has a high ankle sprain as discussed by several doctors on youtube. Holding him out is smart.

What planet are you on? What does it matter how big that he is when it comes to an ankle sprain?? You make zero sense and are clearly just blinded by your hate towards the Cardinals and Murray… He has never missed a start in the two and a half seasons playing in the NFL man… Just sayin…

  7. To the guy calling Kyler “Tiny” face it buddy. He’s probably still taller, bigger, and stronger than you.. Keyboard warrior

  8. Murray gets hurt every year. He’s an amazing talent, but he’s built to be a second basemen not an nfl qb. He gets broken down every year and is no threat to the soon to be world champion Los Angeles Rams . There’s no way he makes it through two more games against Donald, Miller, Floyd and Lewis.

  9. Let Kyler rest. It’s not like the 3-4 Niners strike fear in anyone this season. With Russell Wilson returning, it’s just a matter of time before the Claras are in sole possession of the NFC West basement.

  10. I guarantee that Kyler is playing on Sunday. Coaches always try to provide doubt so that their opponents have to waste time preparing for a different player.

Shanahan isn’t fooled either. The Niners are preparing to play against Kyler.

The Cardinal barely beat the Niners when they played earlier in the season, 17-10, and that was with the Niners starting Lance, a rookie in his first NFL start, and no Kittle. This time around, the Niners have Garoppolo back and Kittle is back.

If Kyler doesn’t play, the Niners will win. Heck, the Niners might win even if Kyler plays.
