COVID protocol allows an Aaron Rodgers suspension for future violations

The NFL won’t suspend Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the COVID protocol violations committed before he tested positive and his secret status as unvaccinated, previously known to the NFL and the Packers, came to light. If the COVID protocol violations continue after he returns to the facility, that could change.

Here’s the relevant language from the COVID protocol, which authorizes the team or the league to impose punishment: “Repeat violations of the offenses listed above will subject players to increased discipline, including for conduct detrimental with a maximum fine amount equal to one week’s salary and/or suspension without pay for a period not to exceed four (4) weeks.”

Some would ask, “Hasn’t Rodgers already repeatedly violated the COVID protocol?” He has, but the league has informed PFT that it interprets and applies “repeat” not as “multiple.” Instead, a repeat violation arises if a player has been disciplined for a prior violation.

If the team or the league had intervened early in the season, after Rodgers first decided that he rejected the science and/or felt morally obligated to resist (while misquoting and misapplying the teachings of MLK), additional violations could have resulted in enhanced penalties. But because te team and the league were asleep at the switch and/or decided not to disturb the delicate genius, the prior violations don’t become “repeat” violations, in the eyes of the league.

Bottom line? Unless he gets vaccinated, Rodgers must comply with all protocols when he returns. If he doesn’t, additional violations will be “repeat” violations — and he eventually could be suspended.

  1. He’s arrogant enough to test the league on this regardless of how it could hurt the team.

  2. So far he has zero official violations (and zero punishment) from the team or the nfl, correct? So that means the clock won’t start for future “repeat” violations until after he gets the first violations and receives punishment for it.. If they keep turning a blind eye, he will never even have the first one much less repeat violations.

  3. So when does the league and this reporter finally take Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings to the woodshed for repeat violations for unvaccinated, maskless interviews inside team facilities.
    My guess is never.
Because, quite honestly, I never expected anything else than the hypocrisy that we’ve witnessed for years.

  4. Rodgers will probably announce his retirement soon. He’s like a sheep who followed the herd off a cliff.

  5. Man give it a rest..we know you’re not happy with him but there is plenty of other NFL news to report today. Seems like this is more of a crime in your eyes than a NFL player driving a 150 mph at three times the legal limit and rear ending a woman and killing her.

  6. Not sure you can say he’s “secretly unvaccinated” in the same sentence as you say the NFL and the team knew. He’s under no obligation to tell you or I, as much as it so clearly bothers you.

No the herd held up and turned away from the cliff, they’ll be fine. He said everyone else was wrong and walked off by himself.

  8. This place is obsessed with this COVID stuff. All for a vaccine that doesn’t even stop the spread.

  9. He LIED about his vaccination status and violated the protocol for unvaccinated players multiple times, every time he was maskless.
Over 740,000 Americans have died from Covid-19, neither Rodgers or the NFL seem to be taking this seriously. What a disgrace!

  10. Not particularly interested in the article, but I always love when Florio throws in Seinfeld references! Brings me back to the old PFT days.

  11. Has anyone watched this packers team today with Jordan Love yikes packers won’t suspend him nfl will have to

  12. This place is obsessed with this COVID stuff. All for a vaccine that doesn’t even stop the spread.
What? It does what it is supposed to do which is prevent hospitalization and death! How do you not get that?????

  13. Meanwhile; fans, sports, concerts all go on. Where there is no social distancing, no proof of “vaccinations” or any uptick in the virus. But we must not let logic come into play… No matter what…

  14. Goodell has cheated again.

Anyone know where Article 46 went? Maybe Congress can ask on live tv.

  15. I’m sorry but this is a million times worse than the bogus DeflateGate. Aaron Rodgers lied about his vaccination status, making everyone think he was vaccinated, putting the health of his teammates and coaches at risk. Brady was suspended 4 games and the Patriots lost a draft pick and the NFL never even proved Brady’s footballs were illegal. So where is the 4 or 8 game suspension for Rodgers and when will they be docked a 1st round pick?

  16. Truth is…..If this was an average Joe QB a suspension would have been handed down immediately!

  17. Watching Love put up a goose egg so far, Packer fans are waiting for the return of Rogers! Interesting how vaccinations have caused so much division in this country! …and the originators get a free pass!

  18. 100% he will break the Rules again. KAarons be crazy enough to think rules apply everyone else but them.

  19. He “rejected the science?” No, he lied. It’s bad that he did, but having antibody treatment and other meds instead of the vaccine is not “rejecting science.” He studied the vaccines and he has concerns. What he should have done is work to change the protocol instead of lying.

  20. What science shows a vaccinated person is more dangerous to the people around them than an unvaccinated? Logic people, use it. Stop with the nonsense that you bought into.

  21. The comments on this post are hilarious. Perfect reflection on what’s wrong with this country.

So Aaron Rodgers not being vaccinated only endangered himself and no one else. So it’s no one else’s business.

  23. How many NFL players have gotten Covid since 2020? Hundreds. How many were hospitalized? Zero. How many died? Zero.

This is a disease of the elderly and the unhealthy. It makes no sense to treat the young and healthy like the old and unhealthy.

  24. Why should Aaron Rodgers need any “protocols” going forward? He’ll be far more Immune than any “vaccinated” player who hasn’t had Covid. Where’s the common sense? And he was NEVER at risk of dying if he even showed symptoms at all. Everything is based off virtue signaling and shame now. What a sad society we have become.

    Duh.

Rodgers endangered everyone that he had close contact with. That makes it all of those people’s business.

Brady was suspended for not cooperating with the investigation.

So, what you’re saying is that Rodgers is only putting unvaccinated players at risk because vaccinated players can still spread it and are out at least a week anyway because they can still transmit the disease to anyone with or without the vaccine, meaning if you’re vaccinated you have nothing to worry about. This whole nonsense about him putting “everyone in danger” is nonsensical. Got it.

    Rodgers is in your head.
    ********
It would appear that the Chicago Bears aren’t the only property of Aaron Rodgers. 😉

  30. Ceedee Lamb will probably get suspended for having his jersey untucked again before the NFL ever even thinks of making Rodgers have to comply with the Covid protocols. The NFL higher ups are a joke.
