Ravens pull off overtime win over Vikings

In a wild, back-and-forth game that saw both teams blow leads, the Ravens ended up on top and beat the Vikings 34-31 in overtime.

The game-winning field goal came from Justin Tucker in the final moments of overtime after both offenses opened overtime with drives that couldn’t go anywhere. Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr appeared to make the play of the game when he tipped a Lamar Jackson pass to himself and made a leaping interception in overtime, but the Vikings’ offense couldn’t do anything with it.

Jackson had a double triple, with more than 100 yards both running and passing, and he showed once again that he’s a unique player in NFL history. No one combines the ability to run and the ability to pass like Jackson.

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook had a big game, with 17 carries for 110 yards, although he was quiet for long stretches in the middle of the game after the Vikings’ coaches had said leading into the game that they expected to feed the ball to Cook often.

The win improves the Ravens to 6-2 and keeps them atop the AFC North. The Vikings fall to 3-5 and are sinking out of wild card contention in the NFC.

  1. Nicely done. It’s hard to beat the Vikings AND the Refs but by God the ravens did it.

  2. Once again this season, yet again every season Vikings win the turnover battle and lose the game. Astounding.

  3. This loss is squarely on kubiak and cousins. Conservative play calling in the second half and OT. Defense was on the field way too long. Time to clean house.

  4. Thankfully the Ravens played a terrible defense today. Lamar looked clueless for most of the game. 2 more picks. Should have had a 3rd turnover on that absurd horse-collar call. In his last 3 games he’s averaging about 220 yards per game with only 5 TDs with 4 picks. That’s what you call an MVP? His one minute drill at the end of the game was brutal and then another pick in the OT… rough. Yet we’ll hear about how great he played from Ravens fans and the media as per usual.

  5. Why dont you show some noids Zimmer and go for 2 to win it. He plays not to win but hope the opponent will ay to lose. He needs to go.

  6. Blah, blah, blah….we know, we know, the Vikings are still the best 3-5 team in the NFL. 🙄

  7. Ravens fan here. That was an exciting game. Not a good W though. I’m really getting tired of L Jack just scrambling at any sign of pressure. He can’t run a 2 minute drill because he tucks and runs and gets hit and chews up tons of seconds. Thank god we played a horrible defense. Our first half was pathetic. Nice to see the actual RBs get the ball in the 2nd half. Lamar needs to clean things up stat or we have no chance against an actual good team.

  8. Vikings going to Viking. Blew the Ravens out for an entire half only to choke it all away even after Barr’s amazing pick. The end was too easy for Lamar.

  9. Once again, the refs set the table for our Vikes, but Zimmer’s boys couldn’t drag it across the finish line.

  10. Why does Gary Kubiak’s kid have that job? Like in what universe has he paid enough dues to be an offensive coordinator for an NFL team? Zimmer has to answer for that. The defense is just a lost cause because they lost too many pieces as the Cousins contract ate up the cap and destroyed depth.

  11. The Ravens are still pretenders with their running back playing QB. They’ll make the playoffs but we all know how this story is going to end.

  12. Fire zimmer, Let’s see what Andre Patterson can do in the interim. And for gods sake get rid of Clint kubiak!

  13. I’ve never seen a more overrated QB than Lamar Jackson. Please, Ravens, pay him $40mm+ per year. The rest of the league will laugh. That dude simply isn’t built to win in the playoffs. His first half was comical with how many easy open passes he missed. Two more picks, including crunch time in OT. Also watching him trying to execute that one-minute plan at the end of regulation was hillarious. He had no idea what to do other than scramble and take valuable seconds off the clock. He can’t read defenses, can’t throw the ball accurately, and panics at any sign of pressure. Yes, the Ravens won the game… against the league’s 18th-ranked defense!

  14. When the defense, who were on the field double the time the Ravens were, managed to get the interception in OT, don’t give the ball to Cook twice in the backfield. Take away the big run early and he wasn’t getting anything out of the Ravens D, throw the football down the field! a FG wins the game. If you end up punting, the defense is gassed and they have the best kicker in the league, not a recipe for success.

  15. If Zimmer survives this game, he will finish out the season. Lost all the fans today. Blew a 14 pt lead, he had NO game plan to stop Jackson running and one telling sign…too many men on the field in OVERTIME??? Unforgivable.

I’m starting to think these kind of comments come from 1 or 2 of the same people who keep changing their screen name. Any way, I’ll agree with you that Lamar didn’t play well today. Missed a lot of throws. On the other hand, he’ll get pass from me this season. Has the most players on IR, and not just the most players, but key players as the Ravens have the highest player salary cap on IR. What he’s doing with this roster of practice squad players and old guys is amazing. It’s not always pretty but he just finds a way to win. Can’t say it’s because of his defense or coaching as he’s winning despite that. His OL is the worse pass blocking OL in the NFL. He has NO time anytime he’s in a must pass situation. Lamar has gone from a QB that can’t win from behind to one that seems to only win from behind this season. Much respect to Lamar. The kid’s a winner period. No he’s not the MVP based on how the award has been determined, but the crowd that thought Russell Wilson deserved the MVP in 2019 over Lamar because of what he had to work with, should definitely be on the Lamar bandwagon this season as he’s working with even less.

  17. Congrats to the Ravens, Jackson is tough to defend. Good luck the rest of the way. I see the hillbillies from Sconnie just can’t help themselves with the comments once again. For a team that benefits from one sided officiating more than ANY team in the league, the fan base sure likes to pop off a lot. I suppose it’s hard to see with the lack of HD televisions in the trailer park, coupled with the green and gold beer goggles. I’m sure J Lo and the Flower will get all the help they need to win until Rodgers finds a way to fake a negative COVID test and get back on the field.

You should know a lot about that as a packer fan huh? By the way, why aren’t you watching them getting beat?

  19. Boycott til zimmer is gone, hes horrible to watch ever since he’s came to town! You almost exactly how everthing is going to go before it happens and the end result. He has NO consistently and barley eeks out wins against bad teams. Good riddance..

Win or lose today, one thing’s for sure — the Packers will not lose any ground on the Vikings in the NFL North.

  21. Wow. Florio and PFW not wailing and calling for Jackson’s demise like they’re doing with Rodgers? BTW.. I totally disagree with PFW’s stance on the “Vax” and mask protocols, but but I RESPECT that they allow civil disagreement.

  22. Vikings looked good, as they hung in there against a contender on the road.
Losing is what happens when your QB isn’t dynamic; notice how Jefferson and Cousins never connected after the TD.
    No leadership from Kirk.

  23. Tim, Lamar is a protected man in the NFL. Remember how last year when Lamar got COVID the league conveniently re-scheduled his game so he wouldn’t have to miss 2 games in the 10 day quarantine? While every other team that had a QB out due to COVID had to play with 3rd or 4th stringers? I get that every business wants to create stars for marketing purposes, but it’s amazing how fast the league will turn on its actual stars (Rodgers with COVID, Brady in Deflategate) in their relentless search to find and hype the Next Great Thing. Lamar has been in the league for years now and has proven he can’t win in the playoffs repeatedly but still we get pounded down our throats every week with what spectacular plays he makes. But we hear nothing about all the easy throws he misses and mistakes he makes.

  24. Lamar just wins and even though it looks ugly at times he never quits. The haters and trolls will knock him no matter what, but the kid is a blast to watch. He is doing enough to win in a season where the Ravens have lost tons of key players on Offense (top 3 RBs, LT, RT). So keep on hating and trolling while we just enjoy the ride.

  25. Sorry unknownvikingfan. That’s how my GB friends and I talk to each other, I’ll save it for them.

  26. To the guy saying this loss is on zimmerand cousins, I agree with u on zimmer but cousins is the reason they were even in ot with that drive to tie the game in regulation. The fault lies firmly on the playcalling after their INT turnover in OT…..a swing passs and a run up the middle and they promptly went 3 and out….unforgivable

  27. Refs helped the Ravens….again. Ravens using all their karma before the playoffs where they will choke….again.

  28. allthingshudson,

Yep. He’s appointment television. He’s the only guy I feel like that about in the league this year for sure. People fuming over him are funny though because he’s a humble kid and plays the game the right way.

Absolutely! I see packers vs Vikings/Refs twice per year!

I can actually do two things at once. I know…that seems tough to you mouth breathers, but it’s actually quite common!

  30. Love Ravens fans whining about their injuries. Every team has injuries. 3 RBs out? Big deal. You haven’t had the same leading rusher more than once in about the past 7 years. Your running back happens to play QB. The problem is just like every year once the playoffs hit you need an actual QB who can throw accurately and reliably under pressure. As much as I love watching Lamar play because he’s an amazing athlete, he’s not a QB who can throw when he needs to.

  31. Four plays away from a 7-1 record and now irrelevant. Enjoy the Zimmer era’s death throes and the complete dismantling thereof.

Except for Cousins of course. His $45 million cap hit in 2022 makes him near unmoveable.

  32. Who cares what Andre Patterson can do. Do they really need another defense guy as head coach? Let Zimmer stew the rest of the season….better draft picks, after all.

And I love you whining every week about how Lamar is a bad QB. I mean, your screen name is “QBsThrowTheBall”. You’re either 12, really old, and/or sad. Did Lamar not sign an autograph for you or something? We get it, Lamar is not your idea of a QB. For your sake, I really hope he doesn’t win the Super Bowl, you’ll probably lose sleep coming up with a way to discredit it. He’s already won 1 playoff game. And guess what, he has the most double digit comebacks of any QB this season. I’d put money on the fact that at some point you said he couldn’t comeback from behind.

  34. vikingboy26
Really? Really? 31 points, on the road against one of the better defenses in the league and its Cousins fault? Just stop talking.

  35. Nostradamus
Your predictions were mostly wrong, you were NOT a prophet and you know nothing about football.

  36. C’mon people. Get a grip. 7 points from being 6-2.
Why is it fans and media are so and pay as ttention to nothing but a record when assessing a teams capability.
    Just stupid.

  37. Maukey, nope, I’ve been consistent the whole way. I’ve always said it’s fun watching Lamar play and he’s an incredible athlete. He just isn’t built to win in the playoffs. And as a result, I don’t like it when you Ravens fans try to tell us every week when Lamar wins another regular season game that he’s an MVP and on the Mount Rushmore of QBs. He’s not. I find it particularly revealing when, for the 3rd week in a row when Lamar has struggled, you guys aren’t nearly as vocal as during the very rare occasions when he throws for 300 yards. Ravens fans screamed from the heavens when Lamar threw for 300 yards for only the 2nd time in his career this year… but crickets these past few weeks as he’s really struggled and played poorly.

  38. Find it funny how if any young QB loses “it was just a off game” and even when Lamar wills his team to victory it’s the he’s overrated! He’s a RB! …Playoffs! Now I understand everybody has haters but lmao been in year four the Lamar hater train gets bigger.

  39. Why would Zimmer call a time out in first half with over 1:30 left??? Your already up 11. Lots of time to run couple plays try for TD but worst case milk clock and kick FG for 14 point half time lead. Stupidity!!
Kirk Cousins had “numerous” chances to put game out of reach, he’s scared of his own shadow. Maybe because he’s not vaccinated wants social distancing cause he dumps passes well before players are 6 feet away from hitting him. True leader,,, not!!! I’ve been viking fan since 1970, this may be the most frustrating team yet!!

The Titanic probably wasn’t all that far from sailing past the iceberg and on to America, but it still sunk.
Wile E. Coyote was THISclose to getting the roadrunner a whole bunch of times, yet he almost always ended up falling off a cliff, or had his own anvil land on his head.
Good football teams simply don’t ALMOST win as often as your Vikings seem to do. A pretty good football coach once said, “You are what your record says you are.” In the case of Minnesota, that’s a 3-5 team that just can’t seem to get out of its own way.

  41. The Lamar discussion is like Groundhog day; after any game, no matter how well or poorly Lamar has played, Ravens fans tell us we’ve never seen anything like him. And if he actually throws the ball well, you tell us he’s the MVP and best passer around. He has more regular season wins than anyone, high completion rating, yada yada yada. Then those of us who actually watch him play and evaluate his decision-making and throws come to a different conclusion. More often than not, and nearly every time in the playoffs, Lamar wasn’t the savior you tried to tell us he was. In fact, more often than not in those key games he has played poorly and turned the ball over and cost you victories. Which you never acknowledge. And so the cycle goes on. I’d just a single Ravens fan– for once– to be objective when he plays poorly. He’s played poorly the past 3 games. And yet we still hear about how amazing he is.

On this site, it’s not necessarily that his hater train is getting bigger, it’s the same 2 or 3 people that keep changing their screen name. They have devoted their life’s mission to putting in check every Raven’s fan that thinks highly of Lamar. I’m still waiting to see the so called Ravens’ fans that have put Lamar on Mt. Rushmore. I frequent this site quite often and I haven’t seen that. What I have seen is people come to the defense of one of the most criticized QBs in sports history. Of course he still needs to get better as a passer, I mean the kid was projected to play WR in the NFL, or sit on somebody’s practice squad as a QB. NOBODY predicted he’d do what he’s done thus far in his career. I mean, I’m not a fan of Baker Mayfield, and I have said from day one about Mahomes, let’s see how he does when he doesn’t have inherited Pro Bowl Pass Catchers, or an OL that gives him all day, or a D that doesn’t clamp down and allow for all his miracle comebacks. The thing is, I’m not on KC or CLE posts pointing out every bad game or what if stats on those QBs. To me, that’s something a child or sad person would do. ALL QBs not named Brady has stuff they can work on.

  43. Here’s a great example from Ravens Nation. A well known blogger described the TD the Ravens scored at the end of the first half as a “masterful drive led by Lamar.” This is exactly the problem; it wasn’t masterful in any way. Lamar scrambled a few times for a few yards and basically the whole drive was a bad long throw that was underthrown and actually picked off but ended up as a marginal DPI call. And then Lamar threw a 1 yd TD pass. It wasn’t masterful, and in fact, it was not a good drive in terms of execution. But if you didn’t watch it, it looked like the Ravens marched down the field and executed a great 2 min drill. Not at all. So describe it as such, instead of telling us how amazing Lamar played in that sequence.

And I suppose your constant trash talk about Lamar isn’t groundhog day? I have a suggestion for you. Crawl back to your trailer and root for and watch a team you like. Why torture yourself watching a running back that poses as a QB? This is unless you’re nothing more than a miserable troll that gets off on crapping on MVP’s.

  45. We know why lj is considered to be beyond the valid criticism of his poor play and continued playoff losses….

  46. Dude in here writing essays on how much he hate Lamar. He says it’s because of our fans but isn’t every fan base passionate about their QB? I just think some people just hate being wrong

  47. Cousins and his tight shoulders are the basic problem.

But I do like the fact that being a Vikings fan builds….how to put it…character.

Since Lamar has been in the league, please tell me what QBs are built to win in the playoffs? Can’t be more than 2. So, what the heck is your point?

  49. I count on one single thing year after year – in the end, the Vikings always step on the banana peel.

  50. Being a Viking fan is very hard sometimes. Like right now. Not gonna quit though — I’ll keep banging my head against the purple wall. Better start wearing a helmet though. . . .

  51. NIte2al: since Lamar has come in the league there are 6, not 2, QBs who have career playoff winning %s higher than 50%: Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers, Big Ben, Brees, and Wilson. It’s hard to generalize all their styles but for sure they are pass-first QBs with good accuracy and decision-making and ability to read defenses and adjust. Sure, Big Ben is a shell of his former self right now and Brees is no longer playing, but that is the type of QB that is built to win in the playoffs. Run-first, inaccurate QBs whose first impulse in pressure is to scramble is not a winning playoff formula.
